I'm anticipating a fall sale--my kitchen is folding tables and plastic bins and shelves right now--there IS a fall sale, isn't there??!!

I was told the same thing at my store this morning after I tried and failed to order my Bodbyn grey kitchen (too many door fronts on backorder with no estimated delivery date). I could have lived without a door or two, but I backed off when I saw my extensive backorder list. Fortunately they are going to honor the promotion for me for another month at least. My store only holds orders for three days, so I'd be living with a garage full of stuff, minus my doors, for potentially months.

After 3 trips to Ikea which take 4 hours in the car and 3 hours at the store I only have half my doors. I would not recommend an Ikea kitchen to anyone!

I have been trying to remodel my office with some Ikea kitchen cabinets as office storage. I have had no luck ordering 24" X24" drawer base cabinets. I finally received an email from Ikea customer service that stated they have no idea when they will be available and indeed they are having a problem with one of their suppliers. I am now looking at alternatives but I am extremely disappointed that Ikea (online, I am not near a store) will not even notify when the bases are in stock and would not provide me with any estimate as to when the bases will be available again.

That's frustrating, Kimberly! I don't know what to do now after readying this forum. I love the kitchen and it's the right price, but I can't live for months with no cabinets.

Patty_cakes, that thread seems to mostly be about the ikeafans website ... Not sure what other secret you are referring to, I didn't want to read it line by line to see if there was something else you are referring to.

Pretty sure even if the site was still around, they couldn't impact production and distribution issues. Otherwise, a business throwing its weight around doesn't freak me out too much on the scale of business asshattery. People can still choose other venues to share info, no one's free speech was killed or anything. I have other businesses I boycott or avoid for what are deeper reasons to me, I can't boycott 'em all or I'd be living in the woods under a hand-woven shelter. IKEA offered me some options (price/features/etc) I couldn't easily get any other way comparably.

I still don't regret the part of my kitchen I'm doing with IKEA pieces, even though I could have used more Sektion info on the web. That did make me wish ikeafans was still around. Getting the drawers and doors to work out on my two pantry pieces was a pain. Had to go against instructions for the placement of some of the drawer hardware, it was a pain figuring it out. But we dealt with it eventually. And IKEA did me a solid with some customer service when I and my IKEA salesperson/designer somehow ordered a gas range instead of an electric. Not hassle-free, but resolved nonetheless.

I'm sure they'll get the missing doors in eventually. And it'll still be sooner I bet than the other half of my kitchen. At least I have all the rest of the IKEA stuff set up and now in use. Not a perfect process--especially those !@#$%y drawers--but it was very doable for us as diy'ers. Immediate gratification.

I had my ikea kitchen installed June 1st (Grimslov off-white) - had a few pieces trickle in last week. still waiting on three drawerfronts. Our install company is going there several times a week, all their clients are backordered. But what is there and installed I am thrilled with, so a little waiting for a few fronts has been totally bearable. Now if someone could do something about my countertop delay.....I think the kitchen process is just bound to have some hiccups.

Kimberly - I'm not sure what Ikea USA was thinking when a month after introducing their new kitchen line they decided to start a nationwide sale.

There was a huge pent-up demand for their new cabs and fronts, as people had postponed their kitchen purchases for months to a year so as not to spend their money on the soon-to-be discontinued Akurum line. Not only did Ikea run out of doors and drawer fronts but worse, they ran out of cabinet boxes, (a first, I think) due to so many people just buying the Ikea boxes but ordering their fronts from other suppliers.

I know people who live with missing cabinets and therefore have totally unusable kitchens.

Nothing to do but wait it out, you're lucky you are just missing a few doors.

Afaik, Akurum is gone and only Sektion is available. For me, I don't care about comparisons to the old line, the new one is the only one I've dealt with. From a taste perspective, I think you have to look at it for yourself. My husband loved the Laxarby, I liked it enough to go for it. I suppose personally, I was a little disappointed that so many of the kitchen options were dedicated to white and off-white styles, since we weren't interested in a white kitchen. But it makes sense with today's tastes. That is true with other kitchen vendors too. I visited hoping I'd like the vinyl wrapped black as much as I'd seen with more expensive kitchen lines, but I really didn't like it that much. I found some of the traditional styles more plastic-y than I'd prefer too but the more matte black of Laxarby didn't hit me that way compared to say Bodbyn. But taste is too individual to rely on other people's impressions, mine included.

Oh hey, one of my missing doors is finally back in stock at my local IKEA. 4/22 to 6/17. Of course, it'd get back in stock after my kids are out of school. Nothing like a road trip with squabbling elementary age kids in the back. ;)

patty_cake - Due to the non-standard appliance sizes in the US, the Sektion line doesn't come close to equal the flexibility and modularity of the new Ikea Method line available in Europe ;-(

That said, Sektion does have increased flexibility vs. the Akurum line. It mostly has to do with the new drawer-inside-drawer options. High end modern European kitchens lines have made it easy in recent years to achieve a minimalist clean look through uniform fronts on all cabinets. Ikea has done what it needed to do to to compete with that look through its new drawer options. No matter how the interiors are organized, the outside of the cabs can look uniformly clean and streamlined.

This is clearly more important to buyers who are planning modern/minimalist style kitchens than buyers who want traditional kitchens (who might not even see this as an important improvement).

I think there is also more uniformity in how the sizes are expressed. You have more freedom to stack and put together different combinations. Two 15" w cabs will fit exactly on a 30" cab. You can play with pieces more like building blocks and they'll fit.

Important note about the Kitchen Sale... Though there's no Summer sale, once the next sale is announced go ahead and plan and purchase your kitchen before the sale starts. For Ikea Family members, your purchase can be price matched for 90 days. If you order before the sale, you're more likely to receive timely delivery (and won't have to fight the crowd during sale days), but you'll still get the sale price, once you complete the price match.

I heard from an Ikea employee in the Palo Alto, Ca store kitchen dept. that the upcoming October sale has been cancelled, and the next sale will be in Spring 2016. Not sure how reliable this info is.

I've heard the same from kitchen designers in my area; if the sale will make or break your budget, I wouldn't purchase until you see an official announcement.

Learned today no more IKEA kitchen sales in 2015 .

Just bought an built my kitchen, was kind of looking forward to price match my kitchen by November. I am worried.

When I've ordered Ikea kitchens, I simply walk in, give them a list with all the part numbers, and have it delivered. When I've bought individual cabinets for something, they're delivered from the back; they aren't out in those huge rows of shelving. I had no idea it was this complex for some.

When we asked specifically about the fall sale about a month ago at one of the 2 Ikea's fairly near us, the kitchen salesman merely said "it will be announced nationwide when we have a sale". ...and would not elaborate. Don't know why they are so secretive....will go to the other store next time. Was really hoping to get this done before the holidays but I guess not.

IKEA announced today they are bringing a store to Jacksonville FL. Not opening until 2017. So I have plenty of time to save money

in Canada, yes, they do gift cards ... hope in US they will do money back.

Checked previous years sales in Canada and they had gift cards back before too, while in US , they didn't do that

My local IKEA kitchen guy (in the US) told me a few weeks ago it was going to be in February and that it was gift cards.

IKEA is going to announce a sale on the Sektion cabinets soon, but it's not going to be the 20% off. Instead, it's going to be 15% off to be returned to the customer in the form of a store credit. They're trying to control the demand. I know this because we just had an IKEA planner here today to design our kitchen. We need over $12,000 in cabinets and would much rather get 20% off than a store gift card. He didn't mention that we have to buy an appliance, but that would be even worse because we're not using their appliances.

Yeah - me too - I would send up splitting my purchases into 2 to get the gift cards back and apply to the next chuck of cabinets (if that was possible.) I also do not plan to use IKEA appliances - but assuming a microwave counts - I would by the $199 one in order to get 15% back / off... Probably going to have to get creative in this process. What a pain in the butt.

Yesterday I went to Ikea (USA, not Canada) to buy my cabinets. Here is what I was told when I asked for details on the impending sale:

-The sale will be 15 percent back (in Ikea gift card money) on purchases over $4000. One is not required to purchase an appliance to qualify for the 15 percent.

-Quartz countertops are run up as a separate transaction, so you can't "bundle" it together with the cabinets as a single transaction. So, you will only get 15 percent back on cabinets and counters if both your cabinet tab and your countertop tab are over 4000.

-There's no rule against obtaining the giftcard for buying cabinets and then using the value of the giftcard against a countertop purchase.

I delayed placing my countertop order, since it sounds like I should be able to claim the gift card under the Ikea Family Card's price guarantee policy in two weeks. Then I'll order counters. That will delay the project a bit, since we'll not be in the fabricator's queue as early as we might have been. But we can wait.

Bummer. We are planning to do our kitchen next Fall. Do you think there will be another sale before then? Also, does anyone know if you order and want IKEA to deliver, can you delay your shipment?

@numbersjunkie that's what we did. We ordered and then had then hold it for a couple weeks and then rescheduled a couple more times due to rain.

When we placed our cabinet order, it sounded like we had the option of getting stock out of the local store or a distribution center. I didn't ask, but I wonder if the distribution center could schedule a delivery a while in advance.

Regarding sale schedules, I didn't ask if they knew or had suspicions about the fall sales. Has it been a clockwork pattern (before 2015) to run a spring and fall sale? If so, I bet there's hope for one. When talking to our installers, they made it sound like the well-known stock shortages when sektion rolled out + Ikea ran a sale last spring was a unique situation that they didn't expect to see again soon. Maybe if life in Ikea land goes back to normal, Ikea will go back to their usual cycles. Except, it seems, they've concluded that sektion is hot enough in North America to support them only giving in-house credit incentives during their sales. The internal cost of the new sale term to Ikea is probably small. All the more reason to do it regularly, I'd think.

But I've lost bets befpre.

From the little I saw while my cabinets were ordered, it looked like there were no stocking issues as of last week. All the "quantities available" I noticed while my order was being entered looked pleasantly high. That said, its not warm enough yet for everyone to be at Ikea dreaming of ripping insulation out of their walls....

@Historian, so you placed your order and you should be able to get the gift card still after the sale starts? I just signed up for the Family card so I'm not sure how that works. I'd love to order our cabinets this week if I can still get the gift card.

Do you know if that 4000 threshold includes lighting?

We are not doing our doors our counter at Ikea and I think that our total for cabinets and lighting is right around 3600 right now. I was hoping I could use the gift card to buy all the organizing things that I want for the drawers. I'll have to run some numbers to see if there is a way to make it work, and if it is worth it.

My understanding is that you can bring your receipt back into the store when the sale starts, and claim the promotion-after-the-fact. The family card offers 90 days or price protection. However, a salesperson noted to me to be sure the family card number is added to the sales receipt; it's not enough just to have the family card; that specific sale has to be hooked up with the family card number.

I didn't ask about lighting. From what I gathered, you need everything grouped on one receipt, and at least with my local Ikea, the cabinet transaction was processed in the kitchen cabinets area by that dept's sales staff. As long as they can process items are part of the cabinet order transaction, I imagine it's included -- and if they cannot, it is not.

Back when I had some in-cabinet lights on my floorplan, I seem to recall the cabinet lighting showing up on the shopping list that the planning software generates. It makes sense to me that at least those lights would be on the cabinet "side" of the operation.

A small item to make sure to count, if it's relevant - ikea sells glass drawer sides and in-cabinet dividers (the white partition - things). If you'll be buying any, the codes for those items is clearly posted by the cabinet order computers. So you can definitely include those little items when trying to hit $4000.

Everything I just wrote comes from things I was told or observed at my store. To be safe, I'd double check all any of these details if they are consequential.

Thanks. We are actually already over $4K (with lighting). I am talking the under cabinet and some drawer lights so those should be included since they are in the planner.

I think we will go order the cabinets this week. I would rather not deal with any crowds if I can avoid it. Plus I am ready. I need to to put a stop to looking at the design and seeing if there is something I should change!

With regard to the IKEA gift card given in exchange for the purchase of $4,000+ kitchen cabinets, how and when do you receive the card? Is it a plastic card you receive in the mail? Does it come within a couple of weeks or months ? I'm curious because we paid $249 for the IKEA planner to come in and measure and plan. When we place our cabinet order, we just need to bring in our receipt for the planner fee and they'll apply the $249 to our order making the planning part free and this is only applicable because of our Family membership card - that's how they record it. Is the 15% rebate reflected in our Family membership card account?

Since I'm hoping to use the 'reward' toward counters I'd prefer to have sooner and not later, I called to check. Answer: They can load the promotion kickback to a gift card right in the store.

Went to buy the cabinets today. We bought the cabinets and lots of lighting for the cabinets and drawers, but we plan to get our fronts at Scherr's. The guy helping us said it was possible that we might not be able to get the discount if we did not buy the doors at Ikea. He said he didn't know that was the case, but that there was a small chance. He said the details of the sale are not all known yet. I thought that was weird. I hope we get the gift card, but I wasn't going to buy the doors there just to get the discount. Our total was not much over $4000 with the lighting.

I ended up paying in two transactions because we had to take home the lighting tonight, but the rest is being delivered. I hope that does not complicate the discount either. We'll see in a week I guess.

FYI to anyone who wonders how these things work in the future. I was able to go today and get my gift card based on my purchase 1 week before the sale. I had two receipts (one for lighting and one for cabinets) and they totaled them up and I got a $620 gift card.

I was told if I end up buying some more stuff this next month to make sure I tell them my order # and I should be able to get the 15% added since I already reached the $4K limit.

I can't wait to buy all the drawer inserts for the new drawers with the gift card. But wait I will because we won't be installing the cabinets for probably 2 months.

Just a confirmation to what Lisa said - they *will* combine multiple receipts. Yesterday, I went to the return desk with my receipts. I had one for about $4600 and another for $133 (supplemental parts needed later). They were added together when figuring out the gift card refund.
