JJ's has rooted Temptation. I think John said they had two gallon and up.

that's why I hate driving to the coastal, and valley areas. All their esperanza, hibiscus, bougainvillea........never freeze back and get so big. Just a little jealous that's all.

Yeah, Jungle Jack's in Cali...I didn't know he charged that much for one plant, but it's probably because he ships them in their pots instead of as bare root, it's better for the plant. Might have to rethink my order if it's that much for shipping though, I placed an order for Divine and Temptation, no way I can do $80 just for shipping. =(

For 2 its still $40. If you get over 3, it cost more.

Hi Laura! Thanks for the bump, and as you can see, my little jungle is coming along quite nicely! =) ... 5 out of the 6 cuttings from Roger grew big fat root nubs in the ST water, and the other 8 from my Secret Santa are due to be potted up next week....I might try bag rooting those because I am running out of space, lol.

They are so small when you order and it takes years for them to get big and lovely. Even with FL having more warm weather than you, it still takes a long time. I would go ahead and order and get them growing this year well ahead of the winter. When they wake up in the Spring, it takes a while before they get all of their leaves and look lovely again and your growing season is shorter than mine. I'm sure that's way so many people have green houses. Even in FL people have green houses, so they will not lose the growing time and they have blooms all year around.

That is my kitchen window. My balcony points the same direction and gets the same sun. There is a motorcycle shop out there with a big flat lot area that collects a lot of snow over winter. Because of the sun reflecting off the snow, that window is usually just as bright in the winter as it is in the summer, so I'm hoping that fact, combined with the heat mats might trick them into growing through the winter and maybe bloom? The five small pots in the front are the cuttings from Roger. Bali Whirl, Pink Pansy, two mysteries, and a yellow that he thinks is Celadine. That one has a big inflo that, instead of falling off during water-rooting, is actually growing. Top right is the rooted mystery from Laura, going left from there is Divine, Temptation (has a nice big inflo start as well), J4 and Penang Peach on the far left. Oh, and on the far right at the very bottom is that first disastrous cutting that broke in half in shipping, Miami Rose, the bigger half rotted, and the tiny little piece that no one thought would survive, did. It's growing leaves already. =)

Our weather this year has been really strange and unpredictable, yesterday it was 75 degrees, but the "realfeel" adjusted temp was 85 because we had 38% humidity, and the overnight low was only 49 degrees, so I can't figure out whether I should put them outside yet. I had them out yesterday during the day, but the wind looked like it was blowing the fragile baby leaves around too much, so I brought them back in. Today's high is going to be 79, with "realfeel" adjusted to 78 with the 41% humidity, and tonight's low will be 55. The night temps keep (just barely) dipping below 50 every once in a while, which also makes me nervous to put them outside. Friday is supposed to be 85/63, Saturday 90/59, Sunday 91/61, Monday 81/53, and Tuesday drops back down to 75/50 and stays that way for a few days. We have also been getting a LOT of rain this year, and last week we had this freaky hail/rainstorm with grape sized hail, while the sun shone brightly through the whole thing...Idaho is so weird. I would love to get my plumies out in this great humidity, but I am just too scared to trust it. Other than the absolute guaranteed hottest parts of summer, I think I am basically growing houseplants, lol.

luck so far. Guess I will have to order from JJ. Did you get the Divine from JJ. Here is a picture of my 1 year old this year cutting from my big Red. It took 8 months to root. I started last Spring and kept it going in the house under grow lights and heat mat during winter. It's in a 2 gallon now and has really gotten big. Using the fish stuff along with FC Time Release. Seems to like both. I went JJ hunting the other day and visited 5 stores. The first person to arrive at 3 stores. Nothing special in FL. All the good stuff went to CA and Az. You need to find an apartment/townhouse with a yard. It will be a few years before they get big, but they will get bigger. I have 3 DPS - love them. I also got Dwarf Criley Rainbow, Dwarf Orange Sherbert, Dwarf Siam Yellow, and Draft Watermelon. They say "they only grow 6 inches a year". Well, I will find out. My guess, they grow more than 6 inches a year. Had a time finding any for sale. Had to drive to one place twice and it was over an hour away. I contacted all the growers in the area - because they grow so slow, they only sell cuttings once every 2 or 3 yrs. I may sell one of the DPS's but I'm enjoying them now. I sold my 2 Metallics. They were just going to be too big. I'm staying with JJ's because they appear to be smaller and have better growth habits. If you want a seller of JJ's, less expensive shipping, I've used Nikki Nursery in FL and had no problem. The only issue, his supply is not very large. Check his website. He has nice plants but you may have to wait but shipping is less than CA. You should sign up to get his e-mails; however, it looks like you don't need anymore at this time. Ha! Ha!

So the first pic is the one-year-old, and the second is the mother tree? How old is the mother tree? I think I'm going to need a bigger house, FAST, LOL! All of mine so far have been water-rooted except the Miami Rose. James is right, it really does speed up the process tremendously, and I only lost one cutting out of the 14 so far. ALL of my cuttings I water rooted already have leaves or spikes and Celadine kept it's inflo ...The DSP is the last one on my list that I am going to get. Remember, I still have 8 big fat cuttings from my Secret Santa that I am currently water-rooting as well, lol...I am not going to be able to keep all of these, the biggest and fastest growing trees are going to have to go to my mother's greenhouse. I already know Celadine is probably going to be the first to go, but I just have to experience it blooming at least once first. It's one of the classics that inspired the lei, and one of the few that smells just like my favorite discontinued body lotion (so I've been told).

Please remember, the area you live in will depend on your growth rate. It will take twice as long for your plants to get to the size of by big red. She is 8 yrs. old and I have root pruned 3 time and trimmed branches a number of times. She is in a 7 gallon pot and will say in that pot. I recently got a Celadine and will try for the 2nd time to root. I have to pay for my cuttings so I'm reluctant to try a new rooting method. I would like to try the water method with my own cuttings but not with one I have to pay for. I like the DPS because the leaves are so different.

I'm jumping in here to say Thank You to everyone on this thread. I just ordered 5 cuttings yesterday, after thinking about trying Plumerias for years. I live in the St. Louis MO metro area so they will be in pots on our uncovered south-facing patio all spring/summer/fall, and will go into the kitchen or basement during the winter. I have learned as much from this thread as I have from researching what seems like the ENTIRE internet!

deleted, the one I ordered from Thailand, turned out to be a good seller. For one time and including shipping it was $22.00. Took 3 weeks to get here but it was fine and is now all leafed up (took a while, used a heating mat). You get only 1 tip but that's what your going to get from the guy in FL. Found him on E-Bay. If you can't get this one, you might want to try him. I will give you name if you ask.

I am also desperately searching for seeds from "Black Purple", if anyone has any, please PM me, I need them for my breeding program, lol. I am going to try and breed a "true blue" plumie, and BP has a lot of blue in it, combined with plants from my blue-grey seeds, might produce something interesting. =)

DPS I got from the lady in New Orleans. Not going to cut on this one anytime soon.

L to R: Malika, Potpourri, Mystique. Got them on 8/1/14 and did not let them go dormant for the 3 month winter. They were all the same size when I received them. Potpourri appears to have slower growth.

Hi Lisa, It will be more then a couple of years before those seedlings will bloom. I have ones that are ten years old and I am still waiting. Also seeds are not always true to the parent plant. Think of a family with 4 kids, all do not look the same. The only way that you can get a true color of any plumeria is to get the cutting of one. Barb

Lol, I have heard that, that's why I'm starting now instead of waiting till I am in a bigger house, and only keeping the best of each plant. I'm also going to put them under grow lights through winter. These are Kukiat seeds, so I'm hoping they are more robust and produce flowers before I die, haha. I'm actually trying to create a true blue with cross-pollination, the ones that bloom the soonest will be candidates (the rest I'll rehome). If I get a good blue, then I'll share cuttings to spread it around and make it immortal. =)

Hi Katie! I have one advantage, I'm actually an artist and have an excellent grasp of color mixing theory...That, and I'm hoping I'll just get lucky, lol. Hopefully, before I die. I'm 48, so I'm looking at waiting up to ten years for seedlings to bloom, and possibly another 10 to see what I get from the seeds that result from the cross-pollination....geez, after writing this, I'm not so sure I want to do it anymore, it just sounds depressing, LOL!

Maybe before then I will be able to get my hands on the plants that are the same species that I bought seeds of, that would shave 10 years off my project, haha.

The plumeria lack the cells that hydrangeas and impomeas do have to create the blue pigment. For breeders of roses that have been like a pursuit of the philosophal stone... But anyway funny to try, I have also planted a seedling and if a get something interesting you'll know via mass media... Just kidding haha.

One thing I would like to comment, what a lazy tree to bloom my god , a dacade to get a new varietie. At least is not like avocados, that you need .....10 to 15 year from seed to fruit. That one of the reasons grafting is a must, fruiting in 3 years ...

Just adding to the comments about DSP. I love it for reasons mentioned - dark green foliage, I love the branching, it doesn't drop its leaves, profuse bloomer, and even fall inflos will stay on, stall over the winter (mine is outside in the ground), and start blooming again in the spring. This one is about 15 years old and planted in the ground in Phoenix (was in a pot until 2011). This corner of my patio is so fragrant because of the many blooms.
