Your grafts has likely taken is the buds are not swelling. It's too early to take the tape off though. It needs to leaf out and get stronger before you bull the tape. There is no risk of gordling at this stage. Also depends on what type of tape was used. Some grafting tapes do not need to be removed. They will deteriorate with time.

so it is ok to wait till the fall to remove it ?

I'd wait. 6 weeks is way too early.

If you know it's plastic tape, you probably should remove it by mid June. That will give a good start on the healing. If it's parafilm (parafilm is white), then you can leave it as it'll deteriorate in the sun.

I've never used plastic for grafts but i've seen girdling if left on too long (via youtube).

I would think you'd be fine with leaving it on. I would think a plant exchange would have parafilm during the event and you did mention it's white. Maybe take another look at the wrap. Parafilm is waxy.

I had the same question. Thanks. I also covered my scions in the tape, just to keep them from drying out. I was thinking I could at least uncover the scions when things start growing. Is that ok. Not trying to hijack thread, seems the 2 questions are connected.

When you do decide to take it off you could place a single slit down the length of the tape. That would prevent girdling but still allow the tape to remain over the wound. It will eventually fall off on its own.
