I'm ready to choose floor boards in my home . I like yours. Can you please tell me what they are ? Curious to know what happened to what looked like a room in 'before photo' past the kitchen door ?

@Elfi Burkhardt My floors are blonde bamboo. I chose it to match the flooring in the rest of the house. I would not necessarily recommend it. When I put the original flooring in--about ten years ago--bamboo was touted as sustainable and durable. My floor turned out to be fairly soft, showing scratches from high heels and my dog very quickly. Luckily, my flooring was a type that could be sanded. At this moment, it looks new and almost matches the new floorboards in the kitchen. But I'm not sure how long it will stand up to new scratches.

The "room" you pointed out in my "before" picture is my entryway and dining/ living area. Here's a photo that shows the same perspective.

Excellent use of space. I really like it. I am enjoying looking at it! lol A lot of NYC kitchen are this size but are closed off or have a tiny window to the living room. Great idea to open it up. I will keep your floor plan in mind when we move to our next place.

@SandyC Yes, the pole is load-bearing. I thought twice about removing the wall and revealing it. In the end, I'm glad I did as I love the open flow, and the pole doesn't look too bad.

Very good transformation. Love that you took the time to think through the details. I agree with one of comment sourcing all the items is half the battle.

We had a Reno done to our kitchen as well and it took years in the making and lots of reading and research and like you we did not want to settle with a patch job.

Our wait and resistance to quick fixes paid off in the long run. I bet you feel the same.

@mfjossjohn It's Carrera marble. @marti16 Drain pipes that run along that wall meant I couldn't open the wall entirely. I live in a condo.

@cook6209 I was pretty set on IKEA cabinets with doors and drawer fronts from Semihandmade, but I really wanted solid wood drawers and base cabinets with pullouts (instead of drawers). For not much more money, I found these which were made in China. Colors and styles are very limited. Luckily, I wanted white shaker. The line is Envoy-Marconi. The white frame of the glass doors on the upper cabinets are a bit wide and heavy looking. So far, I find them easy to keep clean and have no complaints about functionality.

I'm about to start a kitchen remodel on a kitchen very similar to yours. The sink and dishwasher are on one wall and the electric stove and frig are on the opposite wall. My plan is to see if i can lift the ceiling up about 10-12 inches, but I think I may run into duct work because there is a vent coming off the drop down into a small eating area.
