Yes, you are correct - the kitchen cabinets are knotty alder. This home was recently a feature story and it contains great detail on the before/after and type of wood used. Hope this helps!

The cabinets were custom made locally (Wood Products Unlimited - http://brainerdcabinets.com) of knotty alder and stained in 3/4 American Walnut, 1/4 Black.

This was a custom color worked out by our local Hirschfield store and the homeowner, to go with the backsplash.
