help picking out climbing rose!!!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone, I've pretty much driven myself crazy looking for a climbing rose to climb up a fence! I've researched, gotten catalogs, and practically googled myself into a headache so maybe I can get more help here. I am looking for a pink colored climbing rose that is disease resistant ( I am a novice ) that will do well in zone 8b full sun with some dappled shade, one that has strong fragrance because I have my hammock next to where I intend to plant and want to enjoy the smell and finally a good re-bloomer. Am I asking too much?? I've looked at spirit of freedom, the generous gardener, james galway, new dawn, constance spry, etc, etc I'm beginning to feel like this is more like buying a wedding dress the more you try on the harder it is to pick!!!!!!!!! Please if anyone has any recommendations for a good climbing rose in my zone your suggestions would be much much appreciated!!!!!

..choosing a pink scented climbing rose can be problematic for most of us Vanessa, so don't fret about that too much, we all have these issues... as there are just so many out there....I can easily spend a whole day looking at roses and still unable to come to a decision....

...however, zone 8b in the U.S. sounds like a reasonable area to me, and I expect others more familiar to that will reply, but just in case you might be interested in one I have here... 'Mortimer Sackler' an English rose... it has a delicate sweet scent, most of the time... grows to at least 8 foot for me, straight up.... flowers all the way down, and as you want something right next to your hammock, is almost thornless... there are thorns near the base, but none higher up.... disease free here in my garden.... obviously I wouldn't know about where you are..... gets shade in the afternoon.. no problem...

...it's always in flower, constant, to the frosts and can be cut back... whenever, whatever...it's easy... hope you like mine in any case....

Are you in 8B humid or 8B arid?

SJN.. thanks... I'm glad you like it... I should add for any interested reader that there are some prickles on a few canes, sometimes quite a few nearer the base, and they can catch out the unwary, but most canes are thorn free...especially the upper parts...

    thonotorose asks the key question.

Marlorena your Mortimer is beautiful! thonotorose Im not completely sure what its classified as, if I had to guess it would be semi-arid the summers get pretty hot but we have clay soil so that helps the extreme heat

Zepherine Drouhin and Kathleen Harrop are two related, divinely fragrant old 'thornless' Bourbon climbers you might like to check out. Hot pink/magenta/fuchsia and pale pink respectively, Zephy is generally rather more vigorous I think. I don't think you mentioned the max. height and width of the fence you want to cover?

Double-check with others re what diseases may be prevalent in your area, since these two can be prone to mildew in some locations.

If you want a pink climber and don't care about smell (because this rose has none) and want a thornless, vigorous, highly disease resistant, easily trained rose then I highly suggest Peggy Martin. I'm in your same zone.

comtessedelacouche I actually purchased zepherine drouhin but decided to plant it elsewhere because it immediately got black spot =/ after researching I found that it was prone to that disease which doesn't harm the way it flowers I just don't like how the foliage looks. I've never heard of Kathleen Harop Im about to google it now lol

armyyife are you by any chance at fort hood? I ask because of your profile name and being in the same time zone. That's where we're at now. Are those pictures of your climbing rose? It is quite beautiful. I think if im going to sacrifice something on my list of must haves I'd rather have beauty over scent and yours sure is gorgeous.

armyylfe, you've put the bug in me to move my Peggy Martin. I have it tucked in a corner growing up a tree and it gets too much shade. I'm going to have to find a better spot if it can look like your gorgeous lady.

Vanessa, I live just outside of Charleston, SC, my husband is full time in the Army National Guard so lucky for me we don't have to move. So though we are the same zone, my climate would be a lot more humid than yours I would say. This rose came from a woman's garden, for whom it's named, out of Louisiana I believe, it was the only rose in her garden out of something like 200 roses that survived the storm surge of Katrina. So probably fairly same climate as I have. I'm sure this rose would do just as well in Texas as it does here. Yes, that is my rose and I have her in full sun, and she's on a bit of an incline so gets a lot of drainage I would guess. I honestly don't do much if anything to her, she is one extremely tough rose! I would certainly give her a try! I bought her from the Antique Rose Emporium there in Texas.

MrsKjun, yea you may want to move her to more sun, I have mine in full southern sun and she loves it. I had a problem with MAC too as I had her under a tree to climb up her and she was not happy and did nothing for two years till I moved her to a spot with more sun. I'm not sure Peggy Martin would make a good tree climber anyways because of the fact she has no thorns to sorta grip the tree with but who knows.

    Happy gardening~Meghan
