Curtains for round windows

An apartment in mansard. French contemporary style. Round windows 100 cm in diameter. Ceilings are inclined and aren't parallel to the floor surface. What type of curtain should it have? Asymmetric? Rounded? With blackout of course.

That is the best solution, of course)) but 4 of them are in bedroom....

I can't think of anything that would look right individually. Full panels that you draw closed at night?

Can you have window film installed instead for privacy? Think the bronze one allows you to see out but folks can't see in.

Probably shutters could be made to fit the round window as well as the window/door combo.

Interesting privacy film and possible curtain application.

that looks interesting and different miacometlady!

The question isn't privacy, it's the sunlight that comes in the room very early in the morning)) shutters could be, thanks a lot! The only thing - without textile the wall with windows will look too bare and "industrial" in bedroom, I afraid...

And all of the widows open inside - similar like the oven does. Bad for shutters, I suppose

Those are some cool windows! Reminds us of a submarine.

In the bedroom you may just want to go a full wall of drapes hung as high as you can possibly hang them. They should open to show the whole window, but them close up to be a wall of drapes when needed.

A friend made circles of styrofoam that fit the space and then covered in a pretty fabric with a decorative centre that works as a handle. She placed them in the window when she knew she wanted the sun out, but they looked pretty and decorative in a basket on the floor when they weren't in place. A DIY project?

    @Carol Singletary
    You mean this?

I'm liking what Carol suggested. Ikea has sun blocking grommet top drapes. Use a narrow wrought iron rod to hang just as high as possible which will cover the whole window at night, but when you open them in the daytime have matching (to the rods) tie back attachments to swing the drape over on each side. Drapes would not need to go to the floor. For the window with the door in it, do the same only have the drapes go down as far as the round window ones do (so you would not be blocking the air conditioning & then put a light blocking film on the bottom two little panes.

Well, if privacy isn't the issue, then the "window treatment" could be moved to the bed. Do a canopy bed and close the curtain on the side the sun comes up.

Uv film or hire to uv spray the windows. They're unique & beautiful!

I think pcmom has a great suggestion!

Yes, cucciolot, just like that. I think pcmom's idea is lovely, but I know I couldn't sleep in a bed that enclosed. I get a tad claustrophobic
  • 11 years ago
I do love that canopy but temperature wise might be difficult to sleep comfortably. ie. Keeping AC out or heat in.

This could get expensive! I think the best "cheap" solution is the DIY styrofoam circles. They could be slipped under the bed in the daytime. You might cover them with interesting wallpaper or with grasscloth for some texture.

I have similar window problem. is there privacy film available that works at night? Mine does not. In my den, former bedroom...my security camera shows people peering in when they ring the front doorbell. irritating! luckily the other two in the house are higher up and not easy to peer in at. Styrofoam will be a quick fix at night and maybe shutters in time. Thanks so much for the q and answers.

Please post again when you make a decision. These are quite unusual windows. Fabric covered styrofoam or foamcore circles could be hung just below each window on a hook or in a casing.
