With your ornate vanity, consider keeping the flooring simple. Larger-scale tiles in square or rectangle, stone or stone-look, or even wood-look, in perhaps a lighter shade to make the dark wood pop, would look very nice. Consider your flooring in the adjacent space to make it cohesive. You will want some type of backsplash behind the vanity to protect your drywall from water, but decide on your flooring first. I really like the lines in this vanity. You will definitely need a backsplash to avoid water on your drywall. I don't know if I would do tile, it would be too busy no matter what tile you choose. Is it possible to find a match to the black Galaxy granite and have a fabricator cut one for you to size? It will be well worth the effort as it will look seamless.

And, sooz is right - go with larger scale floor tiles, 18x18 minimum, or larger 24x24. Any smaller in tile size will look busy next to the ornate vanity. I recently designed a bathroom with a similar style vanity, but a much smaller bathroom (5x12). I designed it with neutral tones so the vanity is the focal point, as it is a beautiful piece, much like furniture.

thank you souuz and Anita! Yes, I like the idea of the large tiles. Would you also use any accent tiles on the floor? a border or a small tile 1" square black tile on the corners of the large tiles? And how about on the walls, would you do a border, perhaps those glass strips. If so so what color?
