Is it just the angle, or is the TV mounted too high? Is that a comfortable height for viewing from your couches?

I absolutely agree with the folks suggesting a bright piece of art over the fireplace. I love the one on the other wall, so something that would carry that dynamic vibe would really look good.

And you may not want shutters, but are you really happy with those sheers on the window?

I like the suggestions anne dee gave, the first picture of the shelving is a good selection it will balance that tv wall. Remove the clock as well and add an artwork. An area rug will ground the room as a poster stated a rug with the color of the room.

I still think your TV should be lowered. It should be at eye level when you are sitting on the couch. Even 6-8 inches lower would make for more comfortable viewing, and it would look more cohesive with your media centre.

An alternative to buying a shelf, would be to raise the existing media centre. Some ideas would be to replace the feet with longer ones, mount it on the wall at a higher level, or (if you have a handy person around) build a box (black?) for it to sit on.

I don't know if you like the look, but there are lots of online tutorials on how to build furniture and table legs from plumbing pipe, either black or other pipe colors. Google for pipe table.

The art is too wide for the chaise. I'd move the longer sofa under the people picture. Art should be no more than 75% of the furniture piece's width. TV should be much lower and the coffee table should be no further away from seating than 18" to be useful for setting items on it. Your room is busy with color and art, so can you paint the busy FP brick? Clocks are not good decor choices, IMO. Replace it with some more striking art to keep the vibe going.

Are the 2 sofas are a sectional that you have separated? If so, I wonder whether the room might work better with them re-connected, and an entrance to the room created along the wall where your painting is. You'd have to scoot the sectional towards the window a foot or so, and maybe move it closer to the TV a bit.

Plants, for sure. That would pull the room together. And art!

Maybe a taller piece under the TV to house components and some baskets with essentials like clickers and DVD's. Also, I borrowed an overhead projector and did some graphics on the wall behind my TV in my last house.

I would pull out the ivory color from the brick on your fireplace and repainted the walls that shade. That will give you a more harmonious neutral look to the room. Then, decide on two colors you enjoy seeing everyday and coordinate these choices for drama against the neutral backdrop. I would remove all of the current sofa and chair pillows and replace with solids and patterns in your new colors. Add a large flat weave area rug in an interesting geometric print. Your new room will be refreshed and more upscale for a minimal investment cost. Enjoy!

I think a light color shag area rug will add texture and ground the room.

You have a very nice room. I like your furniture and fireplace. I like that you are adding color. I think what could be improved are your accessories. They are to small in scale. You need bold large pieces to balance your large scale furniture. Try a huge oversized bowl or tray on coffee table. Perhaps some large oversized pottery pieces on the tv console. Something in the bold accent colors you love.

Love the art! Pizzaz at its finest. NOT loving the wall color...its blah. Repaint the room...in a warm white...I'll bet that will just bring everything together.

I do too Angelica (great name:) I bought one recently for a friend's birthday and am in awe of his talent. I especially like the urban street scenes like the outdoor cafe above. They are so full of life and color. Here are 3 more of my favorites. I'm pretty sure they will offer them on canvas too which would work well for your fireplace spot.

You have such a lively room. Bright and warm colors like red, orange, yellow will give you energy similar to sunlight effect. I love the energy in the room. You could have a brown shag rug to compliment your room. Such as:

I would definitely add shelves to the sides of the TV. Whether there is enough room for free standing like the first pic or whether they would have to fit within the width of the tv cabinet would have to be determined.

The room needs a rug to pull it together and I would still try to change out the black and white cushions for something a little more red. The coffee table looks a little small for the space, but again, this could change depending on the size of the rug. A crown molding would help to finish the room and remove the curtains. They are just getting in the way of the fireplace. I would replace them with a Roman shade, that way when you need the natural light, you can pull it right up under the crown molding and when you require privacy, just drop it down. This would help with any glare there may be from the window onto the TV.

Definitively, I need to add some shelves to the sides of the TV, and I will take off the curtain.... don't like it at all :) Thanks guys for provided great ideas.

looks so much better with fewer pillows on the sectional ;) very nice.

i think the tv is just lost on that large green wall. maybe an accent color on that wall, and some shelves next to the tv would help.

If you look at the photo posted by Anne Dee, I think one thing that would really finish and set off your room is crown molding. Consider white or the cream in your brick for the walls, and a colored swath behind the tv as in the photos Mia posted.

Those green walls need to be painted a more neutral color that will match with that brick fireplace. You need an area rug to soften the room. That African style artwork does not match that space. And those pillows are way too colorful and busy. Take the colors from the fireplace as your lead on colors for that room.

I like white bright color; but I also know that is not for every space. The furniture's color in these pics are quite similar to mine (In my opinion) This is were I get the idea for white walls, I am afraid that if I take the colors from the fireplace as the lead on colors for this room, it will darken the room.
