Sage green looks like it would pair nicely with your wood and the era of design your attempting to recreate. Also, wallpaper. Simple botanical prints could look great as well.

I have the same issue, well, almost. I'm looking at buying a 1930s Bungalow with natural finish on all wood trim and staircase. Sage green was popular about 10-15 years ago, I want something fresh and light.

We need to go with a warm tone since the wood is in the warm family.

Bradbury.com has lovely arts and crafts ( and other periods) borders which would allow you to coordinate the paint color of your choice and achieve a period look without the expense of fully wallpapering a room. ( I have never ordered from them.)

@kappapal It looks like we had the same idea. :) You are so right about green though! Its timeless? When doesn't it work? I would recommend a lightish green...sage green. What do you think of this color?

Everyone- I normally don't say this but I would stay away from a warm tone unless its VERY tasteful like in Mia's photos! It could go bad fast! However, beige or tan would work!

Blue adds a nice pop and modern edge. White is also a great look. Lovely home!! Best wishes.

I like the idea of something that contrasts with the beige. The carpeting looks beige on my monitor, and the brown of the wood - it all can be so blah and boring. At this time of the year green looks so fresh and clean. Miranda Rose: what color is the green you posted? It looks a little too intense to me.
