Hosta sale

All $9.99 price point hostas going for 5/$30 at Bradford Greenhouses Garden Gallery nursery on Hwy. 90.

Picked up two Fire Island, a Patriot, Northern Exposure, Fragrant Bouquet at sale price.

Also a Key West (an Olga) for a very reasonable price of $12.99.

I hightailed it out of there so I wouldn't be tempted to buy more. I have a pending road trip to Hosta Choice Gardens within the next two weeks to pick up my reserved ones. It's a given I'll come home with more than just the list, right? He he he

Your posts ALWAYS grab my attention. First the mice attacks and now hosta sales! Woo hoo great haul. Also are you trying to tell me you adhere to your 'list' while hosta shopping? I'm not buying what you're selling lady! :P

I love my Patriots! Put FB will you will be able to smell it, it has an AMAZING fragrance. It was one of my first hostas and high up on my list of favorites!

Lol, thanks Kate! No kidding about the list but I actually have this year's shopping list at the ready. I had to reserve some plants because of their scarcity/availability. Truth is, when I brought these home I realized I'm boxing myself in, hosta-wise. I have much work to do re-planning my beds and moving things around....so adding a lot of new hostas to the mix is actually making more work for me and space is at such a premium.

I accumulated 45-47 last year! A small city lot with not much shade is tricky work in growing hostas....many hostas! One reason I am growing several in pots...placement is easier than planting in ground.

Yes, you betcha! FB will be growing in a pot just outside the kitchen slider on my deck. She will greet me every morning as I go outside to enjoy my morning coffee. I hope she will have at least one flower scape, maybe two? :) it's nice to know what your first hosta was, Kate! I am expanding that particular hosta family and of course had to have Fragrant Bouquet, didn't i?

I started collecting Fragrants in 2013 after joining the forum. Don from Colorado whom I fondly refer to as Guacamole Don (loves them, has several) and Moccasin Landing from Alabama both sold me on fragrant hostas! I now have 12 of them!

DONNA, you have no idea how much you make me laugh with your comments! That's great! Thank you. ;-). Tell me what you'd grow in a pot if you could and I'll grow it here for you, okay? It'll have your name on it! Lol

    Dinky Donna - &!?#) lol

Wow Jo, sounds like you got some great deals. I paid $9.50 each for three that I picked up and I thought that was a pretty good deal.

OMG! DONNA, I noted that hosta on one of my lists back in 2013 as I found the name cute and I think it's a little one but not a mini!!! It is one of a sport family of Gold Edger; sport of Radiant Edger...gold center, light green margin streaks into center! HA and you were kidding??? Lol

Barb, I'd say you did get a deal (we pay too much for our hosta here, I think). GG usually has good sales later in the season but the selection is a bit thin by then. I don't ever remember a spring hosta sale before and I frequent them often (15 min. car ride). GG is pricey unless you can bag a sale! Their usual price for hostas ranges $17+ to -$30.

I guess we are both happy to have caught some deals! :-)

Not so, JO! I know my hosta.........I spend hours at the library. It's little like me. Maybe I should find a place for my namesake it in my garden.

Ha, laugh's on me! Yes, you should get one. It won't take up much space! If I ever run across it personally, it's coming home! Mail order is still a far reach for me.

Josephine , I am so glad I am not the only one to come home with way more $9 99 hosta because they were an excellent find. I got 29 really large one this year( because they were a good buy) plus actually bought 5 more little ones that were on my list. At least they were all ones I never had except for three but these were way bigger so how could they not follow me home. Going back three times makes it not seem like not so many, does it. Got to love a good sale!

Ooh look at those pretty pips! Dave, I'm so glad you looked for her to show us! She's a good size too. Had it long? How has it performed so far?

Faye, I remember your wonderful haul! We were all so envious! I'll behave myself until Zehr's gets their stock, and at under $8 at the most, I will likely find something that I don't have..maybe a Victory. ;-)

NHL, have you found any deals yet or is it too early still? By the way, your Twilight is alive and well...maybe 4 pips so far! :)

I transported her here with me back in 2011 and must have bought her a couple of years before that, so I guess this must be year 6 or 7.

No pics from that far back on this machine but found this one of her from the middle of last May.

Always reliable, comes back every year a bit bigger and a bit better.

    Dave

Jo, I check out the stock at Zehrs too. I got June Fever there a number of years ago because of the picture in their flyer. She is now quite large and beautiful. I also bought 3 Fire Island there a couple of years ago and they too have done well.

Gorgeous batch of beauties, Jo! Great choices. Patriot coming up is breathtaking.

Dave, your Dinky Donna has massive quantities of healthy pips. It must overflow that pot once they're all unfurled. I hope you post a pic when it's all leafed out this year.

Dave, thank you for looking up that picture! She really is an attractive hosta with subtle medio-variegation, soft looking. I really, really like her!

Glad to hear your Twilight is doing well. I haven't found any deals yet. Walmart had hostas as of yesterday. They all seemed smaller than last year's supply and there wasn't anything interesting, so I went home empty handed! Boo hoo.

I think I resemble that hosta! LOL

NHL, I just returned from Wallyworld with mulch and potting soil. They have their hostas in but nothing lured me in. They do have two I don't have, NBC and CHRISTMAS Tree but too similar to what I have already. Lots of UAs, KRs, so I went home hostaless too.... kind of relieved, lol!

Zehr's is still receiving live goods stock but no hostas in sight yet.

My Walmart also had NBC and Christmas Tree, but I wasn't interested. Loblaws (similar to your Zehr's) didn't have their hosta stock yet, but I think that should be coming this week. Their garden shelves are filling up fast! Hopefully there will be something that will entice me!
