Panty hose ?

So, we have discussed dresses and slips...now let's move onto panty hose! I will be going to a wedding tomorrow afternoon. It will be about 70 degrees outside. The wedding/reception will be indoors.

I will be wearing a dress and panty hose. There is no way that I will expose my bare legs ( think...two sticks of chalk) to the public. My question is....is it okay to wear hose with nude toes/heels with a sandals type shoes? My DD's would faint if they knew I was even thinking of doing this!

My sandal type shoes are more comfy than my other black shoes. The sandals are a dressier variety. What do you think? I am 65.

As long as the hose have nude toes and heels, it will look fine. You should be comfortable!

I would . . . and do. All of this "no pantyhose" stuff that the so-called fashionistas have "ruled on" is, to me, BS and I totally ignore it. My rule is, "I wear whatever the heck I want to and I dress to make me happy, not some idiot from the fashion police."

For formal dressing, I still like to wear panty hose. A very casual summer dress, especially if it's hot, than no.

they now sell pantyhose with the toe cut out... I have seen them(at macys) but haven't bought them ... if I was wearing pantyhose with sandals, depending on the style of the shoe, I would check them out at a store if I had time tonight.... but, if you can't, you should be comfortable at the wedding!!!

I have no problem with the hose. But, with open toe shoes, I say no.

Nude toes/heels???? Do you mean the reinforced toes and heels? Or the toes and heels that are sheer like the legs?

With a sandal type shoe, No to the reinforced. OK the sheer if you really have to.

Yes, of course! Buy the sheer nude/sandal toe in a tone close to your skin color. Do what makes you feel comfortable.

I felt like I should have hose for SD's wedding a few years ago, but the shoes were a silver dress sandal. I tried those open toe pantyhose, but it just felt way too weird, so bare-legged I went!

Do what makes you feel comfortable.

I did, and no one said a word about my pale, bruised up legs. At least not to my face ;)

Yes to stockings, no to open toe shoes, sorry :-)

I would not wear open toed shoes with panty hose. I'd probably try to wear my slingbacks.

I wouldn't do it either. But since I don't wear dresses I don't have worry about scaring people with my very white legs. ;-)

"tan-in-a can' or a tube or pump bottle, can be a great thing. I've used both neutrogena and jergens glow, and you can create a subtle, streak-free look that's prettier & smoother than winter white and not worry about pantyhose (unless you prefer the security of them--I know a lot of women hate them). Sandals do look better w/ bare feet & painted toes.

No to pantyhose with open toe shoes, IMO.

I do notice when someone wears pantyhose and opened toed shoes, and don't know what I think. Are they opened minded with a "I could care less" attitude, or clueless? It doesn't matter but for anyone who wants to present a "together, not clueless" appearance, I would avoid open toed shoes with nylons.
And that does include peep toes.

This is when I am thankful for my Italian genes ;)

As for hose with sandals, I personally wouldn't do it unless the hose are toeless though I never wear hose anymore so I don't know anything about the comfort of toeless hose. I just find it looks strange to wear sandals with hose, mainly because I think of sandals as something to be worn with bare feet. But I think I'm a generation younger than many of you here. My mother thinks I'm crazy when I go bare legged.

Ok......I will be wearing panty hose with my closed toed shoes! There will not be any dancing so comfort will not natter as much. Thanks for all if the input!

I loathe pantyhose so much, I would prefer for people to see my skim milk white legs. I'm not a fan of stockings with open toe shoes.

    Have a great time!

Late to the party, as usual, but I've worn the nude sheer toe panty hose with peep toe shoes...so little of the toe shows anyway.

But if you look at the you look fab site, they say it all goes (from 2013).

I wear hose without toes. They come in a pink package from Macy's, but I can't remember who makes them. If you saw the veins in my legs, you would thank me.

I think I played too rough when I was a kid, my shins bear the scars of endless scabs. Pantyhose for me with a dress!

The whole pantyhose issue is why wearing dresses is difficult, outside of casual summer sundresses.

For YEARS women have worn open toed shoes with hose that have no toe reinforcement. Shoes w/o socks/hose give blisters. YES to all your wants!! GO FOR IT and watch all the jealous women around you who are not comfortable and get no male attention!!

Naked legs are no where near as attractive as legs in hose. The age of the legs DOES NOT MATTER! We have been sitting at 'Grand March' for Proms for several years now. We watch young ladies spending $$$$ on hair, nails, dress, shoes then RUIN the entire effect by parading w/o hose. Watch the men watching females...those with hose get whistled at.

I haven't worn panty hose, nude, black, or otherwise in about 12 years, and my legs are as pale as can be. Don't care. :)

When I wear a dress (usually for a wedding, or Bar/Bat Mitzvah), I dust sparkle dust along my legs. Doesn't add color, but does add a little shimmer and gives a nice effect.

Way more comfortable for me, and WAY less frustrating (would often go thru multiple pairs of hose fresh from the pkg by sticking a fingernail thru 'em, or getting a run, just pulling them on, carefully).

I am going to my nephews wedding in about 2 hours and have been wrestling with this very question. I am wearing peep-toe shoes with a flowery cap-sleeve dress. You guys didn't help with my dilemma so back to the drawing board. I did paint my toenails in case I decided not to wear pantyhose. But, I do have 62 year old legs but it is so much more comfortable to not wear them. I probably won't wear them. So, to summarize....

    Yes. I'm wearing a dress.

No, I'm not wearing a slip (dress is lined).

    Yes, I'm carrying a purse.

    No, I'm not wearing nylons.

    :-)

I was in Macy's today. Hue makes the toeless hose I wear.

grapefruit1 - glad you had a nice time at the wedding.

I just got home from the wedding. The bride and groom are 22 years old (groom is my nephew) and what was interesting was few women, young or old, wore nylons, and very few of the younger men wore ties. The older gentlemen, yes but the young men all wore dress pants, dress shirts, a dress-up jacket of some sort but no ties. In fairness though, it was a more casual wedding as befitting the bride and groom. My nephew wore a tie for the ceremony (no attendants) and then off it went and the bride chose her dress to show off and match her flower tattoos.

Thanks for the report, grapefruit, and glad you were comfortable at the wedding!

Blfenton, interesting.....I have seen pictures of super formal weddings with brides in lovely strapless gowns that just don't seem to echo the same taste as the exposed tattoos. Your nephew's bride taking hers into account when choosing her dress shows an admirable consistency.

1929spanish-- are just the toes exposed and is there any chance of the hose riding up further on your foot with the toeless hose?? last couple of times i picked up pantyhose, i have been tempted to buy them...

unfortunately, unless dress lengths get longer again, I will want to wear hose for more dressy dresses even in the summer, but my feet still look good- I still happily wear sandals!!

I know that this is after the fact, but maybe will help someone else:

    Hose without the toes

busy bee- terriks posted a picture. The Hue are the same. The opening is stitched so your big toe goes through one hole and the rest of your toes go through the other. They look nicer than my roadmap legs when I wear business or evening attire.

I have also been known to experiment with Dermablend on my legs, but it's way more of a P.A.I. than hose. I have a sample of Devine Legs cover up by Caudalie that I haven't tried yet. I've read good things about it and I use their line for skincare. I will try and remember to provide a review if anyone is interested.

The thing about the toeless hose is I would think the hose would have to match your skin tone pretty perfectly, otherwise your legs won't match your toes which I think would look odder than the pantyhose...

They blend pretty well. You would be surprised.

thx! I don't know if I had noticed they fit between the toes before or not... If I had, I'd forgotten!

I don't think i would worry about skintone so much- they're probably pretty sheer for a close enough match, but I would want the skin/hose line to be covered by the sandal for sure... next time I go to macy's, I will pick up a pair...

The last Manufacturer's Association meeting I attended I noticed many women my age not wearing hosiery. It just doesn't look good. Honestly much younger bare legged ladies could have benefitted from wearing them. There is something about hosiery that just makes a leg look great.

I swear by my Neutrogena self tanner! Legs need to be 'loofaed' vigorously, especially the feet. Dry thoroughly, and use a bit of moisturizing lotion(i use Eucerine original)on the feet only. When lotion has dried, apply the first coat of self tanner. About 2 hrs later, apply the second coat. I find the Neutrogena to be the most 'realistic' tan, if there is one.

what I really dislike, especially when I see photos of celebrities, is very skinny, bony feet in pointy shoes with no hose. The shoes may be fabulous, but without hose those bony feet just look horrid to me.

No panty hose here. In the very rarest of occasions, if I had to attend something formal in a dress, in cold weather, I would wear sheer black hose and black shoes. Pretty rare though LOL.
