Not sure how, but fb has been feeding me stuff from Asta Darling. They are truly stunning. She is big into historic costuming, much of which she makes herself. It's amazing to see how many layers women used to wear to make these incredible gowns happen. And of course she does the full hair too. But just watching her get dressed in all these layers, and how she puts them together is fascinating. I can't imagine how much time she spends sewing these creations. Thought you might enjoy it. Here's just one of many.

Yes, for me also the number of layers was impressive. How did ladies not swelter? Or perhaps understanding why fainting was more common.

I was going to comment that I would be too worn out to go out after getting dressed - until I read chispa's comment. Having "lady's maid" would make it much easier to put all of the required pieces on when getting ready.
