I am sort of in a similar position as I need to order new appliances for a new build, semi-custom condo. I am declining the builder grade appliances. I previously owned an all gas wolf range, and while I loved it, it was difficult to clean, and over the years required several expensive repairs. At first I thought I would go with a 30 inch all gas Thermador with the free dishwasher but I am limited to a 400 CFM hood as condo is not permitted for a return air exhaust hood. The Thermador w dishwasher and Zephyr 400 CFM wall hood are approx $5300 without tax. I would still need a refrigerator and washer/dryer plus counter microwave. When I add it all up, it comes to $10-11 K with a few extended warranties and installation. I also just found out that the appliance store financing is like a credit card, so it may be that I wind up financing these items with expensive interest - so am now rethinking my high end tastes. My next thought was to go with an all gas 30 inch Kitchenaid slide in gas range. I like the handles on the new model, and it offers 5 burners plus a warming/baking drawer that seem useful. However, I've read that the self-cleaning oven can overheat the circuit board. Not sure if this problem has been solved - so I am continuing to research kitchenaid. I can do a suite of Kitchen aid appliances for approx. $6k with $1500 for washer/dryer for $7500 - $8000 total. I've owned a Kitchenaid fridge and dishwasher and was very happy with them. Also thinking about the GE café line. The GE café slide in gas range is $2500 with matching fridge for $2500. I would do a bosch dishwasher for $800 and an over the range microwave for $900. From what I have read on consumer reports GE offers the best over the range externally vented microwaves, whereas Kitchenaid doesn't fair as well in this department so I would want a wall hood with the Kitchenaid suite. If I go the GE café route, I would be spending $6700 plus washer/dryer for $8200. I am also looking at buying at Lowes, since I found an 84 month payment plan with interest at 5.99 - they carry both Kitchenaid and G E but not Thermador.

It's really hard to choose, since I want high end appliances like the Wolf, but not the price or maintenance.

Would be interested to hear your thoughts about the GE and Kitchen aid appliance choices. Thanks!
