backsplash in kitchen (vertical tile)

Does anyone every place their tile vertically for the backsplash in the kitchen? I am putting honed split face cambria strip (picasso) in my kitchen as the backsplash. My designer suggested that we lay the tile vertically. I'm not sure if I like the idea. We are using a tall stainless hood. The backsplash will go all the way to the ceiling. HELP !!

If you have reservations, wait until cabinets and counters are in. Buy some tile, glue it to cardboard, enough to get a good feel for it- worth time and investment. Then lay cardboard up both directions for a day or so! Then make your move!

Almost the only time we have seen tile run vertically is in bathrooms where there is a tall enough wall area to effectively showcase this style.

Thank you for your comment. The house has not been built yet. We should start construction in the next few month. Linen cabinets, and taupe/beige quartz countertop. These are similar kitchens. Thoughts please. I just don't think I am crazy about the vertical tile.

With the tall area around your stove hood I think vertical placement makes sense and would look great. Your tile is in soft colors and with matching grout would not be as dramatic as the glass bathroom tile shown above.

For some reason vertical tile always makes me want to tilt my head! I think it would annoy me quickly.

It's your kitchen. Vertical tile might look nice, but it's pretty fashion-forward and I haven't seen much of it yet, so there's no reason you should feel pressured into something that doesn't make you feel comfortable. There's no prize to be won; you just want to feel at home in your spaces, so go with a simpler arrangement. It's a nice backsplash and doesn't need any sort of extra pizzaz.

sure, but design shows are the cutting edge, not the mainstream realm, where most people prefer to live.

How about horizontal everywhere but go vertical in the tall area behind the hood? A little contemporary splash with a traditional background.
