I wanted to post some of the pics from germination to to the present, though it looks like that is not going to work as I had hoped it would due to the fact that all the pics I want to post have been deleted from the computer. I will do some pics of the plants in their present state in little while.

Note that the Red Brandy Master is the one in the middle. To the left is Cherokee Purple, to the right is Old German.

The plants look nice but the two things I'm curious about are forking branch incidence and leaf type. I have plantings of BrandyBoy and BrandyMaster (regular pink with potato leaf). I prefer BrandyMaster because there is much less stem forking than with BrandyBoy but your experience may vary.

From pictures of the red BrandyMaster it appears that those are regular leaf plants (like red Brandywine). Growth characteristics probably vary more between your trail plants. Do you have any Prudens Purple or Pink Potato Top plants in your garden? I believe those potato leaf varieties (all with pink fruit) will come closer to the hybrids in yield than Brandywine but BrandyMaster would still get my vote for best of these named.

I agree - the above description of Red BrandyMaster from seed catalogs indicates potato-leafed plants??

My Brandy Boys (2) went into the garden yesterday. They were sown outside in half-gallon jugs on April 11, sprouted April 21 and were about two inches tall when they went in the ground. I'm a wintersower, so I generally don't baby my plants too much, but this is the smallest and earliest I've ever exposed a plant to the wilds of 20x30 garden. I did cover with an inverted, wire-mesh wastebasket in case the rabbits came calling.

Are brandy boys supposed to be potato leaf? Got the seeds at HD and mine are.

I can say that RBM is out producing Brandy Boy by a very wide margin. The plant is a lot bigger as well. It is taller, and more bushy. The fruit is more of a round body with slight ridges on the shoulders. Brandy Boy has more of the original shape of the Brandy Wine parent.

The next evaluation is the one that is the most subjective. Taste. I will still keep updating with some pics, and information. I will review the tomatoes for taste when I get ripe ones.

Some photos to substantiate your results would be helpful - for example - when you say RBM is out producing Brandy Boy by a very wide margin - what does that mean? RBM has two tomatoes and Brandy Boy one - haha. Photos of their trusses would be helpful to compare. They appear to be both very young plants and it is most likely too early to draw any conclusions? Is RBM potato leaf or regular leaf - it appears regular leaf in the photo above?

Hudson I will post the pictures when I can use a better camera, and upload them. Right now all I can use is my phone. It may be days before my home internet is working again. Due to the freeway expansion they have torn down the lines. An inattentive crane operator has caused half of the city to be without internet since yesterday. At least they had our power back on by this morning.

That explains things - glad you have power! I am interested in RBM - especially if it is out producing Brandy Boy by a very wide margin! I hope your comparison saves me the time doing the same thing and that is why I am requesting more detailed information. BTW - all the photos I post on this forum are taken with my phone camera. Tks!

I have never seen either seed at any seed rack but I'm still looking. Would like to try either one.

Hudson at the present the photos posted in this thread have been done with my phone cam. The thing is it is not easy to hold it, and take a clear shot up close with one hand, while the other hand is holding branches out of the way.

Though some pics of production will be coming. I had to give RBM a hair cut due to heavy wind that broke a few branches off, and trimming off some that were showing the start of septoria. I have been using a lot of Daconil so far. I can say it has done well for me. This time last year septoria was a major problem. A couple of the plants seemed to just grow faster than the septoria could spread. It has been wet here for a week. Short severe spats of rain, with gale force winds, then followed by a day and a half of misty, and overcast.
