What a great idea! I leave mine out. I think they are too big to fit underneath a kick plate but will look into that later.

Roomba garage...great idea! I love our roomba which is parked under a dresser in our bedroom. Nice it has clearance to clean the wood floors under all the bedroom furniture.

We used to have a baker's rack in our kitchen and it "lived" under there. Worked great and kept it mostly out of sight. I like the idea of carving out a space under a cabinet... as long as you can still access it if necessary!

Ours just sits in a corner on his charger we named him Bob.

LOL... we named ours "Hairy", for all the dog hair he picked up. =)

Mine is old enough it doesn't self-dock. It likes to run out of juice under the bed or sofa which is why I'm looking into the Roomba program to trade-in your old one and upgrade to a new model.

flyergrace, email the Roomba customer service dept. with your serial #s and tell them you're interested in potentially trading them in - they will either send you a link that tells about the program or an email with the info you need to trade in.

I keep mine underneath our bed. My theory is that it will clean there first and keep us from hinhailing dust all night. -also to hide it from my tottler. Although the Roomba cleans in such a weird pattern who knows if it even matters where it’s placed in terms of cleaning order.

Have anybody made a "garage" for their Roomba? Would love to see some creative ideas people have made for it. Thanks!

I have three kids and one is a toddler so we keep ours underneath our shoe rack in our front closet. It has enough clearance and during the day it is completely out of sight and reach of kids. It is programmed to start every night after the kids go to bed and it will bang around the closet if we don’t open the door so there is no risk of forgetting it.

It is a rather simple solution to the problem and while it isn’t a formal garage it does the same job of keeping it out of sight but still allowing it to be functional. We haven’t run into any issues with this set up. Our closet already had an outlet wired in it, but if a closet did not then an outlet would be needed in the closet.

I was thinking of under a console in the entry way that has a shelf tall enough to be over the docking bay so it 'hides' the roomba. Anyone done this?

I'm thinking about the same thing (how I got here). I'd like to have a dock space large enough to accommodate a big model in the future, if necessary. It would be great if that nook could be in the least visible side of a kitchen island or maybe from the side of a built in book case. Also, want another up stairs.

I have tentatively designed spaces for 4 robots: a vacuum robot and a mop robot for each floor of the house. All of these spaces are under furniture or kitchen base units. I emailed iRobot about this over the weekend and they just confirmed what their manuals say, the vacuuming robot needs 0.5m on either side and 1.5m in front, as per this web page. Even less helpfully, for the mopping robot, this web page says it needs to be 1m way from any other dock, so the vacuum and the mop robots will need separate "garages". The kitchen company are going to love me....

Additionally having the Clean Base as a vertically arranged item instead of a horizontally arranged item further hampers attempts to hide it in the base unit cupboards, as does having the Clean Base empty via a flap on top rather than a flap in the front which means it needs even more space to be given up to it.

Tidy people usually hide their vacuums in cupboards, so why the idea of hiding the robot vacuum/mop instead of leaving it out where it can be tripped over, gather dust or visitors can see how exactly you're managing to keep the floors so clean is beyond me. Quite disappointing that after so many years of existence these aspects of usability are still to be considered by manufacturers.

Do any owners have any recent experience with specific models that show the 0.5m on either side rule can be broken? I can live with the 1.5m in front, but the 0.5m to either side is making it hard to hide it where I want to put it! iRobot support seem only able to quote the manual.

I put a Braava under my floating bathroom vanity. I had an outlet installed there. It works fine without 0.5m to one side as you can see. I agree that the taller docking stations make this more of a challenge. I just bought a Roomba i5 with the self-cleaning function, and the docking station is 14" high, too high for that vanity. If iRobot doesn't make them any taller, I could make the next vanity higher and the counter wouldn't be too high. I think the console table idea sounds good. Do you wonder if iRobot deliberately makes their products visible to increase interest and sales?
