While I believe some of the things people use as good luck charms can be quaint and add something to the decor, perhaps they can carry on family traditions or maybe have a neat story behind them, I do not believe anything you place around your home is actually going to bring good luck. Nor do I believe that arranging your furniture a certain way would bring you luck, money, or other fortune - unless the good fortune is that you do not consistently stub your toes on the coffee table or trip over the ottoman.

I have some woven-straw charms that I made as craft items, and a horseshoe that belonged to one of my grandfather's horses. The woven straw items usually go in the kitchen and supposedly bring fertility or good harvest. I just like the way they look.

I don't have any lucky charms, but except for our first house, I have made sure to buy homes with the front door facing south or east. We had one house with a north facing door, and it was not a lucky house.

For me being a visual person I have quotes throughout my home that inspire. Even the word Inspire is part of my home decor. Also photos, lots of photography it transforms a house into a home and welcomes all who come inside.

I do nothing for luck, plenty of things for safety: smoke and gas detectors, fire extinguishers, alarm system, low temperature alert, etc.

"Attitude" is the dog; "traditions, charms, and layout" are the tail. The dog wags the tail.

On a *practical* basis, burning sage is a well known universal purifier, concentrate on all corners and nooks. A saucer of plain old rock salt will also soak up toxic and negative energies (flush down the loo and change often). Benjamin and Jerusalem incense are recommended but in crystal form on charcoal ember, not joss sticks. Blessing everything you use with the sign of the cross i feel gives extra clout. In fact a friend of mine swears by often blessing her furniture.

In any case, even for those who don't really believe in this, the actual performing of purifications will put one in a positive frame of mind and they are often surprised by the results. Some also suggest certain ritualistic prayers but i think each person is unique and personal formulations are the most effective.

I practice Feng Shui, not because I believe evil spirits will fill my house if I do not, but because so many of the guidelines of Feng Shui make sense for many reasons...health, well-being, serenity...

I also have a good luck eye a Turkish friend gave me, which I hung as she advised. She is happy I did it, and every time I see it, I remember her caring... :)

No mirrors facing the bed! If you have one, have another mirror directly across reflecting from it.

My parents lived for over 40 years with this mirror facing their bed and they had the best marriage of anyone I know. Of course my Dad had a stroke 1 month shy of his 66th birthday. Do you think that caused it??

Yes, I have crystals hanging in every room, usually over a door or window. My mother-in-law collected them throughout the years. There is very good energy in our home.

Prayer. A house is nothing more than a shell with the people bringing the soul. Each house we build starts with prayer at the empty lot with petitions for safety for the ones that will build the home.

The horseshoe on the front door is a good luck. Many people in India has them in front door.

I too like the horseshoe. As a child, I once was digging in my grandparents' yard when I unearthed a horseshoe from my grandfather's draft horse, Tops. The shoe had some rust on it, so I put it on a metal rod suspended across my parents' trash-burning barrel so that the flames would reach it. Needless to say, the next trash fire made the shoe as good as new. Of course, I waited a few days for the shoe to cool off, and I intended to keep it forever. Now I feel inspired to find it around here -- somewhere -- and use it in my house!

On a visit to our ancestral home in Ireland, reduced to only the stone walls, I found the horseshoe tossed into the wall to bring good luck to the family. As I feel blessed by my family, I now keep the horseshoe, facing up, over my kitchen door. It brings good memories which are good fortune.

Certain colors are deemed lucky or ward off evil. Yes I definitely believe in using items, colors and layouts considered traditionally lucky. Your home is an extension of you, it should reflect your traditions, family history, beliefs and simply tell the story of who you are!!!

I have a horseshoe over my door, mainly because it is tradition and I like it, not because I think it brings me luck. I have used feng shui to de-clutter and rearrange my house. I think it just makes the space feel better to me, I don't really think it makes it more lucky. But, every time I move into a new place I DO perform a blessing on the house and clear the space with burning sage and prayer.

Feng shui is my good luck charm, because a house and rooms with good, easy flow and not too much of any one element (like metal, stone, wood, etc) is pleasurable and relaxing on the eyes and easy to walk through without oddities and obstructions. A lack of clutter and things that are seldom used or enjoyed feels great, too, and allow the beloved photos and mementos to be better seen, appreciated and enjoyed. If it feels good, then, it's healthier and makes me feel lucky! But a little sage and a prayer are good, too : )

While I do not believe in good luck a part of me is, against my will, superstitious. I keep a little rooster in the corner of the window box in the kitchen. If I had a Chinese kitchen god I'd use it, mostly because they are so cool. I think Feng Shui makes a lot of practical sense, at least mostly. Also, I always pick up coins off the ground because I was told it was bad luck not to. Silly me.

Not in our home. I strongly believe that one brings about their own good fortune. For me and my house, we serve the Lord, so no good luck charms are needed.
Though Feng Shui has some "rules" that make practical sense, I think it's all pretty funny to worry about money flowing from your home if you disobey a certain rule.

I believe we make our own luck with a positive attitude, but I do follow feng shui principles for practicality (I don't go overboard with red strings and the like, but I like the suggestions for flow and energy -- like not stuffing things under beds or having too much clutter.)

I'm a buddhist and have a statue or image of the Buddha in each room. Not for luck, but for a reminder of the path.

No, I don't believe in "good luck" but I do believe in blessing my home. I ask God/Jesus Christ to bless my home, keeping it safe and those who come into it. This is done with a little olive oil, I make the sign of the cross above the doors.

I also think Feng shui offers many practical wisdoms such as auspicious location and orientation of the home, lack of clutter in the home which provides for a calmer mind and easier lifestyle, certain elements that should be eliminated because they are dangerous, etc.

I like Buddhas too because that faith is all about kindness and happiness, and seeing one is a happy calming influence.

I follow Feng Shui. we also go thru a cleansing ceremony when we move to another new place. we are currently in the process of moving.

I believe in the Chinese art of feng shui.The reality is that good memories and laughter are all part of the belief in VIBES or VIBRATIONS and are valid scientifically , if we pay close attention to it . Sounds , the wind , light etc are all relevant to peace and self realization because of the effect they have on the soul and mind .

I don't worry about that sort of thing very much, as long as I have a lot of sunlight. One of my sisters, though is fiendishly attentive to every possible detail...crystals, feng shui arrangement and colors, bathroom doors closed to prevent luck from flushing itself...lots more. The bathroom door thing was very unlucky for me, when she was visiting. I got up in the night to use the bathroom and walked straight into the door, breaking my nose. I was not best pleased.

I am a Reiki master practitioner and believe that negative and positive energy around us affects how we live. We bless our house, all corners, release dark negative energy that may have crept in, and place crystals around the place that bring positive energy. We then invite all the beings of light (God, the archangels, our guardians, ascended masters, everyone) to surround and protect us, all with our love and gratitude. It's a happy thing but it has nothing to do with bringing 'luck.'

@buster 57,no mirror facing bed means: It can keep you up or restless sleep. That can cause heath illness. Like headache. They say we need 7 hours for sleep. I'm sure you have heart illness in your family.
