wall to wall carpet is nice except it gets paths worn in it. if you promise to vacuum it twice a week so the pile doesnt get mashed, and replace it as soon as it looks worn, you can have carpet. otherwise, go with hardwood with a nice area rug under the bed.

My husband and I love the look of wood and the softness of carpet, so we did both - essentially wood floored entire room and then a huge carpet leaving only a 1-foot border of wood showing along walls. The carpet is regular carpet purchased from carpet store, with thick pad underneath. Carpet can be more affordably purchased as remnant and the store can finish the edging to look nice. As such, it can easily be replaced if necessary. Also can be lifted up to do a deep cleaning. The only thing I don't love about this look, is the wood floor, being a very dark brown wood, shows any dust, even a day after cleaning. But if you chose a lighter wood, this would not be such an issue. Good luck and happy renovating!
