If you want to the panels put them up. It's not an ideal situation, but I don't think it would look bad enough to stop you from doing it. You have a lovely view out those windows if you don't put the panels up it is still a lovely room. I do like the idea of a black chandelier.

How about two short rods for each window with less bulky panels pulled to the side? White, not black rods and finials. Just for looks. You wouldn't be able to actually close them. Thats a great chandelier for the space. You could get the chandelier dipped to be nickel or chrome. Beautiful space.

The panels are a great color that complement the room. You may consider the tops to be pleated, they seem to have an unfinished look to them. A black rod would further to accent the wall.

I have to say no to two short rods-personal bias against things that don't function as though you were going to use them for real-it's like too-small shutters.

You have plenty of room. The one you have hanging is hung way too wide. Part of the curtain should cover the window. Great color.

The panels will work, just make sure the curtain rod is place half way between the ceiling and the top of the window to give more height to your room. You can have panels custom made in the correct length or add a fabric panel to the existing drapes to lengthen.

As mentioned above I would consider doing custom panels. A white linen or flax color would add a clean look to the space. Black would be a dramatic contrast but may bring out the black colors in your space!

Check Ikea for grommet top drapes to closely match your wall color. Ikea sells by the pair not by the panel as most stores do. Theirs are high quality for the prices. Install black rods as close to the ceiling as possible & take down to the floor.

Ikea includes iron on hemming tape for shortening. You should only need two pairs for both windows. Take the rod for the right one should fit as close to the corner as can be & the rods should be placed the same distance on both windows. When hung the drapes should be brought over the windows part way. They should not be taken clear off the window.

You can probably spray paint the existing light fixture a charcoal color. Good luck.

I suggest you consider the Ashford silk Austrian valance from Country Curtains. it is formal enough for your room, and won't be hampered by the imbalance of the window positions.

Thank you all for the comments and suggestions. I have started to consider shades or blinds but need to first decide on whether panels work. Please understand that what is hung right now is merely 2 broom handles resting on a blind so i could better see the drape color on the wall. I would certainly install real rods above the window and evenly distribute the drapes. I did think of painting the chandelier but it is a rather bulky brass that may appear too thick in black paint. I haven't ruled that option out yet though. Will also look at roman shades with some added details/interest. Thank you all!

I forgot to mention that any type of roman blind would have to be outside mounted. I prefer inside mounted but our windows will not allow for that. This is another reason i'd prefer panels. Often outside mounting gives the appearance of the blind just sitting there in top of the window.

Yep, but Maureen is right about the off center thing and you have such a beautiful view. When would you close the curtains or shades?

If you go with decorative rods, you should leave the finial off that smaller side on the right, then mount the other rod the same distance wide, with both finials on it. Disregard that larger space on the left, or hang two small pieces of art vertically in the space next to the drapes.

Now that I looked at it again, there isn't enough space, but you could use the space between the windows.

I believe the panels can work, but you need to make the rods level according to their height from the floor. In the photo, it the ceiling seems to slant upward on the right, and hanging curtain rods on a slant is not the answer. I believe your color choices are nice, and I do like the idea of black accents.

I think your chandelier is nice as-is.

Your windows are asymmetrical, there is not much you can do about unless you go with a wall of draperies with openings at each window. That would involve having custom-made.

What is the paint color on your walls?

From the pictures online, it may be hard to see but my view is actually of a busy main road! I have a front yard with trees but the road is there and it's busy during the day with traffic noises. I live n NJ, we have a lot of people here!! Not ideal but not so bad on weekends. Anyway, the main reason for drapes is to rid of the echo I have in this room. I have to close the shades at night. It is rather sparsely decorated and I don't want to put useless pieces of furniture in this diningroom. My office is across the entry foyer and has windows that have drapes that fill the wall quite nicely. The office windows are spaced to allow for drapes whereas my diningroom has that one problem window. The walls are painted (as of last week--I did it myself, moulding too, much to my husband's disbelief!) in BM Revere Pewter. I was intending on updating the chandelier, which truly is a dated brass looking thing, and then getting a large piece of art for the back wall. Still want to decide on curtains before proceeding with accessories. Curtain color will help me decide on pewter or black hardware (or not if no curtains), and coordinating chandelier color. I did purchase an ivory panel and a flaxen/wheat colored panel which I'll be placing near windows today to see if another color as suggesed above will work, though I was hoping to stick with tones of gray. Still working on it to try to get it right without spending too much money. Thank you all again and I welcome any other ideas/suggestions.
