You miss the trees just removed? Soooo replant them? Not really understanding what you're looking to do. Kind of endless amount of choices. There is a Catch-22 that the plants I know of in those conditions either die or do very well and spread. So if you want anything other than a natural look, like the opposite bank, it normally means hacking back the bits you don't want to get what you do want.

It looks like the bank is really close to the water level, so I'm assuming pretty boggy? Most turf grasses can have a problem with too wet and mowing can be a problem. There are lots of sedges that can grow in that type of condition, low growing, almost lawn like.

I think you might want to put this post over in Landscaping. I am a big fan of Sweet Flag. It is a clumping ~1 ft light green/yellow plant that grows very well in or beside water. I believe I paid $15 for a clump from a nursery/pond center and set it in my new pond for a year before deciding to divide it into several sub-clumps. Within a couple years, those that I dropped directly into my artificial stream grew into huge clumps far larger than the original pot. The original pot probably had 50 plantlets that would have been easy to separate had I considered doing it. My point is that you could cover that entire area with one pot.

I would leave the bushes on the other side alone. Why bother with it? You already miss the trees on the grass side. You want a boat slip there, right? So be careful what you plant on the yard side that will spread if you want a slip.

By the way, I love water iris. Just a thought.

Can you build a little deck/dock with a deck walk way out to the dock? Then a few water loving trees/shrubs/perennials.
