Velvet or Silk Drapes?

I have been debating over the fabric choice for my living room for quite some time, and I am still stuck. I have elements of wood and glass, a fabric couch (similar to a chenille look) and an area rug in the living room. Please note that I plan to get black-out lining, too. Please HELP!

I would ask your upholsterer (or whomever is adding blackout lining) if the silk you have chosen will get too rigid w the lining. If not I vote for silk. Unless you live in a cold climate, velvet is a very heavy look.
