I didn't realize the difference panes made in the view until we replaced a divided picture window with a single pane, I now enjoy looking out that window. If you like the view and you have enjoyed the single pane keep single pane.

I really liked the look of our divided light windows when we moved into our latest house, but now I can't wait to replace them. They prevent light from coming in, and the view looks too broken up. So, I do like the look of them, but they wouldn't be my first choice if you have a view that you like.

Consider changing the bedroom and bath windows to as many panes as you can find in standard windows to fit your frames. It will feel more cozy and have less glare. Live with just those changes for a year of two before attacking the other rooms. Perhaps change the kitchen in the future, as the second and maybe final step.

If you are worried about people walking through the floor-length single panes, change those immediately so you can relax about it. No anxiety allowed in this peaceful setting.
