Remove the shutters they're the wrong size for the windows. Your house is white with beige stone work everything is neutral paint the door your favorite color. What I would like to paint is your house. I would find a warm beige in the stone work and match that, then I would paint the door a burnt orange to bring out the orange and rust in your stone.

I agree that you need to paint the house. I would consider a deep taupe color for the siding that blends with the roof.
Add brick molding around the windows to give them more weight and paint the trim a creamy soft linen or cream or beige, but light and soft contrast.

Paint the door and the storm door shiny glossy black with all brass accoutrements on the outside. Door numbers, light fixtures plant pots.

The last house is what I had in mind! I think it would be a good idea to replace your window space with windows like this. Your space looks like it is 8 feet wide and you could replace it with three plate glass clear windows and it would be beautiful! A small round window in the gable would be a nice touch since you are at it and want a change. Love the landscape too, and a pro could come in and replace some of you plantings. It is going to be beautiful.

Lowes and Home Depot have great paints that I have used, and they have booklets with color schemes all chosen for you. Their paint lines are Behr and Valspar that I have used and liked. If you have a painter do it he will probably have an account at a paint store in brands that he prefers, but every one has lots of colors no matter whom you choose. Slick. You only need two colors so you are halfway there!

Those are great ideas, but we just did a major renovation inside and can't afford to paint the whole house now. Considering our limited budget, how can I improve the outside? Remove shutters? Paint door? The trim around the door and windows are aluminum. Do you think I should paint the trim a color other than white? If you know specific colors, please share!

This house reminded me of your house in a color combination that I think would work. I think you could adapt some ideas for your own home, Pick a taupe color from the stone siding to paint the door and the storm door. Or just paint the storm door a taupe color and then find a really pretty Blue Green Aqua for the main door to add brightness to the area and make it seen from the street.

The beige color is Sherwin Williams Tony Taupe 7038; Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige was also suggested in the post of this house but no number was given. Try making sample boards and see how you like them. Honestly with beige and white any color for the door that you like but in a bright value will be geat; lime, hot pink, bright purple, periwinkle blue is also very pretty and there are alot of flowers in teh blue purple vein that would look divine in your planter beds. You just need structure on the out side of the house with planters, could be white, zinc or copper. House numbers bolder, and light bigger and stronger with lines and weight.

Add zinc , copper, white, paint color of the door, planter or planters

to front of house by garage or by front door. Add planter boxes under each of the front windows. Prune out tree so you can see your house somewhat. Put in modern style lantern by front door and garage door and new bold graphic numbers. Add a mailbox if you have one on your home. See white house below when reading the above paragraph.

This house below has strong horizontal lines in the window boxes and the windows across the garage. Try to emphasize that with the window boxes and your plantings. A garden archtect might be able to give your a design plan for your planting areas and the best way to prune out your tree by the house for more visibility.

I think you could do all the shopping and paint the door and storm door hand light and house numbers and do planters all in one day and have a whole new look for your house. Hope the pics and paint are to your liking. It can have a new breath of fresh air with the blue beige and white.

Many thanks for all your ideas! Here are my after photos:))). I also bought new numbers but haven't gotten them hung yet. Any ideas about low maintenance landscape or lighting? Please keep in mind low budget and DIY projects only.

The outdoor lamp post has a place where I could hang the numbers, but not sure what kind of sign and have been driving myself crazy on etsy with so many choices!

Also, flower pot is now black. Should I change the color?

What size light should go by the door? Does it have to match the light post?

Since you have blue trim I would look at a color wheel and choose flower colors that are opposite the blue for high contrast and one color on either side of the opposite color, or choose the two colors on either side of blue on the color wheel. You have very low contrast in yoru house colors so you can enliven it with plantings. And your local nursery will have someone that can direct you on what and how much to buy. Set you budget and see how much bang for your buck you can get.

Personally I think house letters should be large like 5-7 inches tall, under the light so they can be read at night, and horizontal because when you are driving around they should be highly visible. And black to match all the trim on the house. You might invest in a black door knob and mailbox if they are required. The house light looks a bit wimpy too. Need something bigger, black to match the wrought iron gable hanging.

I would either have your last name of the sign or think of a name for your house like they do in Great Britain, and christen your home with a name and have that painted on a sign and hang it on the light. Could be fun like Cozy Cottage or Lane's End, etc. Oh the lamp post looks crooked so if that is the case it might need more cement to keep it straight.
