Yes. Especially if the new windows are replacement where they fit into your existing window frame. This was probably mentioned or at least should have been. Only way around this is a full tear out which can be quite a bit more expensive and unnecessary if the old frames are in good shape.

"Daylight Opening" which is what you are referring to are different from window company to window company. You lost one inch on each side which is why I thought they were replacement frames. If I had to offer an explanation, it is probably due to going from single pane glass to double pane with a "beefier" sash and a different manufacturer.

New windows won't necessarily have less glass if sized and installed the same. They can have less or more, depends on the design of the product being considered.

This is probably the most over exaggerated concern. You really dont lose that much glass and its not that noticeable, especially if the window is 32 inches wide or more.
