Wondering if your art would suit being on the smaller wall facing the window and you could paint that wall the red and your art would be a real focal point. Behind your couch, do collage of black and white photos of your travels. Third picture gives you the look, but I would only use a set of six framed photos.

The colors in the painting are actually more of a burnt red... and our kitchen wall and entryway walls already have that red color as a focal wall, with a creamy goldish color as an accent, so didn't want to go overboard on the red color. Above is our kitchen... pardon the mess. ;)

I do have these two pictures (as well as ones of us with each of kids in front of St. Basil's Cathedral) - unfortunately, they were framed 4 years apart and we did the best we could coordinating the styles/colors of the frames without having to reframe them all. Originally they were hung on separate walls anyway. Again, for some reason the color is showing more rust, but it's definitely a burnt red matting on these.

These were personal photos from our trip - one in Red Square with the snow, and one taken from our hotel window overlooking the Kremlin and the magnificent cathedral in the background.

Based on your other colored focal walls, I would skip it in here also. For the four pictures to work with your art, I would reframe them. I have redone a few of mine...went to Walmart and purchased black frames with cream matts. They will take on a whole new life and compliment your art's modern feel. You could try placing them one above the other on both sides of the painting but try placing them first on the floor to see if you like that arrangement.

I like your art and that it has a personal memory attached to it. I would hang it a little higher above your sofa. I would add more to the wall, but in a small scale, do not add anything that is larger than the painting. I would add family photos, small decorative mirrors, or decorative objects. That will help fill the large wall you have, I do not think you need an accent wall, all that is going to do is highlight the wall and bring attention to it's bareness.

I have this same picture above my leather sofa!! Love it. I am wondering as you have no lamps that by adding some it will help fill the wall? I have the Tiffany lamp on one end of my sofa and it is beautiful with the canvas. Maybe try these also for the left of the sofa by the door and table lamps for the other end. That will give the illusion of a smaller space behind the sofa.

Pier 1 has some large red velvet sofa pillows that match the red in the art to a tee. That canvas has such a major impact, (everyone that comes to my home, that is the first thing they comment on)

I think that dividing the sofa up with the red pillows will also give the illusion of a smaller sofa area on that wall. You really just have a 3 cushion sofa on that wall and the canvas should be big enough to fit without anything else. (my sofa is 80"), we just have to make the wall look smaller :>)

First my unsolicited advice. I love your bookshelf! You might want to move some of the books on the middle shelves up to the top and move a couple of the art objects down to the middle shelves next to the books, just to balance it all out. I Like your you art but it does look a little lost there. You could add a couple of wall sconces, hard wired or plug in, and use a low v. bulb to add some warmth to the room. Or move the art piece to the dining area on the red wall. I think a larger scale, landscape oriented tapestry (rectangular and hung with length parallel to the floor) would be really nice over the couch. It would tie in nicely with all your beautiful wood work. I also like the idea of the black and white photos mentioned above. Adding pillows seems like a good idea to but you might want to go with the larger ones as opposed to the smaller red. Great room! I love the natural light!

This must be a first for Houzz! Your art is hung too low! Ideally, it should be 6"-8" above the sofa, and if it's centered on that wall, then the center of the sofa should be centered on that, which it looks to be--that space between the two center cushions looks to be about right.

I would look at hanging your other 2 pictures on the small wall area next to the large cabinet opposite your sectional. Not sure if they will fit, how large, but hanging one above the other if they are not too big. Again that might help to narrow the wall with the birch trees. The bare wall just extends the sofa wall even more and makes it look longer. Break it up with a lamp on the table, a tall mirror or your pictures.

Ha! Thanks for all the ideas... technically the picture IS about 6" above the soft (which of course hubby used a giant nail for)... but we hung it BEFORE the cushions were put on the couch... oops! I agree, it needs to be raised. Also, I hadn't realized until I looked at the picture that I never pushed the couch back down centered on the picture after I took our Christmas tree down that was in the corner and I had to move it. I would really hate to reframe the pics we have because we spent a LOT of money having them professionally framed, so maybe will just consider some other pictures from our trip instead. As far as lamps... I agree, I DO need something, but my son is a lamp hog and steals them from the living room all the time to use in his room and my husband HATES lamps, thus enough ceiling lights to land a 747 in our yard if needed. :)

Hanging similar pieces of artwork to each side or hanging 2 floating shevles on each side,totaling 4,and adding some accessories,or flanking the picture with sconces.
