If it's any help, my wife used to do window fashions. Honeycomb blinds can be mounted, inside to the top rail of the trim.

Pictures please as a 1/2" deep window jamb is impossible (maybe 3/4" in thickness). And casements would be deeper than 2" for certain as well.

I think he is referring to the jamb return depth... That will depend on the thickness of the wall, as well as the thickness and design of the window. You may need exterior mount treatments if the inside mount units aren't workable

I don't have a great photo as we haven't moved in yet. I know I can do outside mount blinds. I don't think I can mount in the top as the window would jam up into the blind.

I'm just wondering why these windows are like this and what it says about the overall construction of the house and installation of the windows, if anything.

Gotta be outside mounts. Walls aren't that deep now with "advanced" framing. Inside blinds don't usually happen unless you have a masonry wall or a 2x6 framed wall.

Whether or not they told you that makes no difference, its irrelevent at this point. The fact of the matter is that you need outside mounts.

All depends on the window manufacturer as well as how they were set. I have a 2x6 wall in one section of my home and the jambs are barely deep enough to install even a shallow blind.

They are andersen 400 series double hung

I have the 200s in my home so they tend run a bit thinner if memory serves me correctly.

I have just bought a house that has the same windows. I can not stand them and I am searching for a way to fix this.
