Lucky you! I love fresh tamarind water especially with bits of pulp yummy. I have a seedling tree that was given to me it's only about 5 ft tall. I know they get pretty huge. I have no idea how long I have to wait for my tree to bare fruit. Do you know how many years it takes for seedlings to bare fruit? I bet many but I would like to know.

I've never timed how long it takes for Tamarinds to get to fruiting age. But I was once given the figure of 7 years from seed to fruiting. Now, I have some trees much older than that which have never fruited. So maybe from seed it's extremely variable. They're really fairly drought tolerant but do better with some water during dry times, provided they're not drowned.

Never see the fruit sold anywhere here but I understand they're used mainly in cooking. Haven't tried "Tamarind water" but will give it a try. Expect it would be a bit like a lemon drink. One of the uses here is also entertainment - get a tourist to bite into one and watch the expressions on their face. Cruel I know, but fun.

I guess I have a long wait . I have never seen it in food Only drinks. During the winter festivities my mom makes a hot fruit punch it's delicious. This is what I know she adds to boiling water: a can of fruit cocktail (the ones with diced different fruits in a can) diced yellow apples, few tamarinds, stick of cinnamon, sugar, and sometimes adds guava and prunes and raisens. And to give it a kick when served adds to the cup a splash of rum or tequila

You gotta give it a try. Idk how to prepair it but Im pretty sure its just water sugar and blended tamarind pulp. You gotta get it to tase right cuz sometimes people add too much sugar and it's way too sweet and then sometimes people add little sugar and Tastes like lemon water kinda.

Really great! How old are these trees, and what's your care/fertilizing regimen? We have one that was seed grown from some really sweet tamarinds some years ago and it flowered significantly last year (large tree almost two stories tall now) but only set about four fruits. I read that tamarind is in the fabacae family and is leguminous (derives its own nitrogen from bacteria that live in its root nodules and fix it from the air into the soil) so I've been withholding fertilizer but it doesn't seem to be growing much this year. Thoughts? The leaf litter quite nicely suppresses most weeds under its canopy so I don't think its being outcompeted necessarily.
