Panel size

I'm having panels made for three windows in my living room.

Two windows are 46 inches wide and one is 76 inches wide. What size panel should I have made? Is the standard 50 inch panel going to look skimpy on my larger window? These are for decoration only and to add to the overall look of our room. We aren't looking for the panels to function as darkening or light filtering.

Try finding discarded appliance cardboard boxes, cut strips into the widths planned and put then up on the windows with painter tape or thumbtacks. Then step back, and sit in different areas of the room to discern if you like the look or not. Add other strips to widen the panels and reassess if you are not pleased.

felix i think she means drapes. generally 2x - 2 1/2 x the window width is what folks have. if you are never closing them 2x is fine.

Yes, drapes. Not panels like shutters.

Yes, curtains, that is what I understood. The cardboard panels are meant to visualize the proportions in relation to the window opening.
