need help with living room

I am looking to update my living room with new furniture. I have already purchased the brown leather sofa and plan on getting 2 neutral chairs. I would like to pull my colors out in the rug, pillows and accents and curtains. I know the fireplace needs to be updated with new stone or painted. Husband is against painting the stone and found out it will be costly to tear out. For right now, we are leaving the fireplace as is and hoping to work around it or with it. I had someone tell me if I am keeping the fireplace then I need to pick colors that work well with the fireplace. I am not really sure what the colors would be. My thought was rust and blues. I have looked at rugs and pillows and I am totally confused. I like, traditional, rustic, cottage, and transitional. (Also, the piano is going out of the room and I am looking for something to put TV on. also

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. And pictures would be a great help with rugs and pillow ideas etc..

You need a larger rug. Start with that for your wall color. I would paint the built-ins white, not stark white. I've used BM Floral White OC-29 on my woodwork. I'd even paint the crown molding as it cuts the room off now. Is the TV too large to be put into the built-in if some of the shelves were removed? I'd turn sofa to face FP.

Would I paint the crown moulding BM Floral White, if so, would that still not cut the room off? We had thought about the tv going in the bookshelf but we were trying to figure out how to do all the cords and I will need to see if the bookcase can have the middle cut out and leave the top shelf or if I will need to redo the bookcase. About the fireplace, Do you think I should leave the stone or see if it can be refaced over what I have? I thought about changing the stone to stacked stone but have run into complications of tearing out. I have not checked about refacing over the existing stone.
