Looks good. Why change it?

I definitely understand that feeling, after going through it myself just recently! But you may want to live with it for awhile and see if it grows on you (or not). I think it's actually pretty cool looking. Only other thing I think would look nice is to swap out the dark tile for much lighter. Good luck!

Hi hilsy! You'll probably find that once the other elements are brought into play in your room, things will come together. Keep your "nautical" look going. I think it looks fine.

The glass tile is looking green on my monitor, so I'm going to call it green, if its another color, substitute that in my comments. Once you get some green and white accessories in, it will look completely different. As others have said, try living with it awhile, and if after 3 months, and some accessories, you still hate it, tear it out. I would remove the top, the lower two, green tile and replace with the marble. I would also use the glass tile as a backspace on the vanity.

Looks a little like the Sonoma Tile, Market Collection - Vihara. in iridescent finish. Color...jade? 1x4 sticks... (it's guess that tile day in Michigan today). I picked the ichika color in silk finish for the accent wall of my master shower (bids for the job start today - hooray!).

You should definitely live with it for awhile. Are you planning glass shower doors? It looks quite nautical and fun.

Will you have additional lighting? Outside of being a bit dark it looks quite nice. I'd follow the good advice and give it a fair trial with the rest of the work completed, before deciding it doesn't work for you.

You are getting sound advice, hang I there and finish off room. I suppose you could add a course of more marble to make each band skinnier.... But not this week... Or month... Smile. We've seen people freaking and it doesn't take long for them to come back and say they feel better.

After following above advise and waiting a while and IF you're compelled to rip out tile and do it again, just rip out a small portion and add another niche or a larger niche. My guess is you used the ready made niche from the tile shop so do another one above the bench same height as other. The BACK of the niche should be the field tile (marble) or plain white. The paint in the rest of the room should be light in color (barely teal or gray) as well as all accessories (towels etc.) Also, get white containers to put your soap products in. Keeping those simple and not busy looking while in the niche will help keep down the busy. (think Navy - clean and uniform). It looks like there is a window opposite in the room/bathroom or bedroom. Keep the window treatments very airy so lots of light comes in. I feel you. I had iridescent tile on my bath (much much smaller) and did it above and below the niche both bands 18" high. My field tile is 18" by 10". The little tiles started cracking and I was afraid over time they could crack all the way thru and water would get behind tiles. I had the guys rip them out and add more field tile and making the bands smaller in height with a different porcelain tile that still has some iridescence too it. I still get my bling and although it's not glass, it still reflect the light. I think you shower looks GREAT!

I am thinking if you paint the ceiling in a color from that tile in metallic finish, may just pull it all together.

Just to clarify above, I wanted the flashy and the shine. And also, my licensed contractor didn't make sure that the tile guys used the correct mastic for adhering the glass tile. Two types of mastic was supposed to be used. One for glass and one for porcelain.

It seems worse now than it will later Hang in there.

I've been out all day and am reading these comments now - boy, thanks for all the input! Yes, it's the jade vihara by Sonoma and I loved the little sample! I have to say it's darker in person. I'm not sure living with it is bearable, also we may sell the property so I don't think it would have broad appeal. I love the following ideas: keeping the paint in the room a paler version of the color, keeping the details around all white, using soft light window treatments and making sure the niche is white. All great ideas. I'm thinking of ordering a little extra field tile and fitting that in where I can, reducing the accent tile where I can. Also, it's not grouted yet. Wouldn't a bright white be best? What type? Would that soften this look? (I swear, very gaudy in person). A metallic paint on ceiling would be interesting too but I don't have the guts for that and it's already white...

It is the iridescent finish that makes it look so flashy. Yes, absolutely white grout...it will lighten the overall feel -- was the sample grouted? Definitely white in the niche... do you have more of the floor mosaic? I can't believe I nailed the color and make...(clearly I have spent too danged much time in tile stores). Strange coincidence that I picked the pale aquamarine color (ichiko) for my shower just last week. I went with the silk finish. I wonder if you can sandblast the iridescent finish off without messing up the installation...

What an interesting idea! Has anyone ever sandblasted tile? I was kicking myself for not getting silk finish.. I'm going to ask my contractor.

Since it's not grouted, rip out the darker tile on the top and bottom bands, field tile the top and bottom it will then look more spa like. And change the seat to be a dark gray or same field tile. You'll feel much better about that. And, don't change the ceiling. If anything, use a high gloss white.

What a lovely huge shower. I agree with TM N55. Is the niche tiled? I know it will be subdued with a white grout however, it will also be harder to change at that point. This is one reason I warn most not to go with colored mosaics. I do think one or two stripes will be lovely though.

Do you have more of the marble wall tile? Try holding a piece up to the green stipe in the middle and see how that looks. If you remove the portion in the middle of each green stripe and replace it with a row of marble it may tons the whole thing down. You will however have irregular stripes but it may look interesting.

It's the niche that was the mistake. Replace that odd color tile with the white. And then go for it, is it a little edgy, yes, but I'd hang with it for a while. Other than the niche which throws every thing off balance.

I would not add a 4th type of tile into the shower area in the niche. Use either the marble wall or mosaic floor tiles for the niche. A white tile why light and neutral is just adding another finish to an already busy space. I know the feeling you have - its like getting a haircut you hate but that everyone else keeps complimenting you on… I think if the rest of the room is kept light with just a couple of small blue accents to recall the shower tiles, the shower may end up being something you actually like.

I think I'm going to do the niche in the white marble and then see if any of the glass stripes can be replaced by the white, if the measurements fit, just to reduce the impact. That glass tile is a little darker (even worse) in person. The photos are too flattering. Thanks for everyone's help - it really did help to get people's input!

I think that if the shower floor was darker like the accent tile it would feel better. Also maybe using bigger tile on the shower floor. Dark colors are elegant and this may help to make it feel more symmetrical.
