One of the great things about natural wood is its character. An aspect of that character is its interplay with light. Throughout the day, assuming that you have natural light in the room. It will appear very different in the morning than in the afternoon. This, of course, makes a photo a difficult means of communicating the value of a particular choice.

One thing that we advise clients of when choosing natural woods is that it can become imposing. While dark woods can be very warm and rich, they are best used in larger spaces. Some dark stains and dark woods can fade leaving patterns where rugs are placed. The effect of this can be reduced by moving the rug a few inches in either direction occasionally.

This is the room, it appears larger in the photo because its a panarama, but its a pretty large room.

I like the lighter one. I went dark. It shows every spec of dust, and and dirt. If I ever replace I'd go lighter.

I would go with something in between, something that is warm to compliment the cabinetry in the kitchen, but still has grey/cooler tones to go with the kitchen tile.

Dark stained wood is very hard to keep clean - the amount of natural light you have in the space is beautiful but it would show every smudge and spec of dirt.

This is a nice happy medium because of the beautiful variation within it would hide things that might be more obvious on a monotone floor. This hardwood would also go very nicely with your fireplace.

Lauzon (Organik series)

That would have been perfect. Where can I buy this? We were looking for something like that but couldn't find anything like it. My husband got sick of searching so we chose the gray but Im hoping maybe I could return it or sell it. Do you know of any way I could sell a floor without losing money?

The lighter flooring option or a color in between the two with variations such as the one Floorscapes suggested is what I would go with. The dark shade will show dirt easily and does not blend as well with what you have in the kitchen.

Depending on where you bought it you might have to pay a restocking fee to return it. You could always try to sell it online?

The floor I recommended is Lauzon Organik series. It comes in 3 1/4" or 4" width in a 3/4" solid board, this is the Charm stain.

try selling it on Craigslist if you can't return it. I have to say that I'm not so sure about that third option with your cabinets unless you paint them white.

I would have gone with the dark floor if you were to keep your cabinets as they are.

Go with something natural....no stain. You need a light wood to go with your cabinets and for easy maintenance. That gray is a trend that will look dated in a few years. Natural wood is timeless.
