Thanks flair lighting but would gold clash with my hurricane lamps?? I am going for a more traditional look with crystal chandelier. Red mirror as my current sofa is red (not garish but a deep red - it's a knowle sofa), although I hope to change my sofa to a more neutral colour in a year or so. When I do, I am thinking I could then put red accents using cushions. As I mentioned, my existing furniture, i.e. side units etc. is dark wood. Sorry - cyan is not my colour and not sure if it would go with the wall colour. No artwork yet.

Miacometlady, I have to say, I love the chandelier with the lampshades but not so keen on the mirrors, would like something more traditional??

Unless you have red in the room and also don't mind being narrowed down when accessorizing, I wouldn't use a colored mirror. You can always add red accessories under the mirror. I think a very narrow framed black/dark metal mirror might be complimentary - you could also rest it on the mantle instead of hanging. Instead of a crystal chandelier, maybe think about something a little less traditional and less formal (unless you want formal).

Is the fireplace surround getting painted or will there be a wooden mantel added? Right now it just blends in so much with the current wall color- not much contrast here. I like the idea of a metal or black framed mirror above.

Great suggestions from you all. Love the distressed cherry/gold round mirror suggested by flair lighting but since I am in the UK, I won't be able to get it or a lot of the other suggestions, so I will have to try to find similar items in the UK. What a clever suggestion to superimpose a mirror and chandelier - will try to do that!!

Thank you nikkimer555 but I can't have that type of chandelier as my ceiling is quite low so I need something wide and flat rather than long. Design Inside Chicago has given me some lovely ideas for rectangle mirrors and also the confidence to mix metals - I will try to be brave!

Cabingirl13, you are quite right about the closeness in colour but I am not painting the fireplace and in real life, it is not as close in colour. That's why I thought I would go for a coloured mirror (I like black too) or some colour accessories on the mantle.

Question, how high are ceilings and what height are you looking for in the actual chandelier body?

If your ceilings are 10' then not a problem with a chandelier, but if they are 8-9', then you might have to consider a flush mount. This is a beautiful chandelier and the body is only 11" so would be fine with a lower ceiling.

I have been playing around superimposing, having seen - flair lighting's - pictures, and thinking of rectangle as it gives more of a wow factor and also shabby too... what do you all think? I think my husband would hate this as he would think it is too fussy and he likes modern. Hard to compromise :( Probably not the style for those of you going for a more modern look...
