Need a new ceiling, pattern or no pattern

We had a roof leak, destroying our living room ceiling. It's a late 60s home with the original plaster swirl design. I was never thrilled with them in the first place so not to sad to see them go. Our design of choice is contemporary with paintings large and small everywhere. California ceiling or flat. If I could be assured the ceiling would not show seams I would probably go flat. Any other suggestions? Sorry about the mess.

Definitely flat. No texture. Then all options for your room are open. I, personally, always paint the ceiling a color...never white.

I would go flat if you want to go contemporary, I had all the ceilings in my house flattened. You need to get a good plasterer, it will be very messy when it is done and you would need to paint the ceilings again. Think about having LED/spotlights put in if you are going to do the ceilings again as it will be the time to make the holes in the ceiling before you replaster.

I don't think you need to plaster the ceiling. Maybe drywall plus skim coat.
