hanging pictures on staircase wall

Is there any guideline for hanging pictures on a staircase wall? Should they be a certain distance from the stairs, staggered on the wall? All the same height? I would love to hang some family photos, but I have a big blank wall and don't know where to start. Thanks!

Depending on the number and sizes of the pictures you have, they could either be displayed in a more uniformed or staggered fashion. There is really no right or wrong way as long as the overall composition looks good to you.

I like the arrangement in the first photo a lot, thanks for the idea! Should the frames all be the same colour for a better look, or is that just personal preference?
