My Ikea Sektion Kitchen with Scherrs Custom Fronts!

I just posted this on the Houzz forum and I mean to post here on the GW. Check out my long winded post about Scherrs and Ikea Sektion on the link below. I'm happy to answer any questions about the new Ikea Sektion line and Scherrs custom fronts for ikea! :]

Thank you for posting your Sektion kitchen. I love your colors and the countertop. What hardware did you use? Nice example of a very un-Ikea looking Sektion kitchen.

Steph, I looooove the pull out trash! We went with the two trash can ikea sells with lids and I wasn't sure how I would love the lid, but I do! It keeps the smell away and looks more "clean" when it's opened. We had the pullout for the trash made to look like three drawers too so it would blend in more and we couldn't be more happy with that choice. We fell in love with the stone too! I agree with the touches, when we told my parents it was Ikea (and my dad is super "wood is supreme" kind of guy) they couldn't believe it!

Lanne, Thanks! We bought them off of ebay! I am a deal finder and found ones i loved from Houzz and googled for them to get a deal. They are "Fulcrum" in champagne bronze by Atlas Hardware. We found so many deals by finding things we loved and then going on ebay or waiting for an Overstock.com 12% coupon to buy. Overstock doesn't charge for shipping or tax, SUCH a save when you're buying expensive items!

dianem87 - Congrats to your beautiful new kitchen! What gorgeous quartzite!

I have a question regarding the metal braces on top of the Sektion cabs. How did your stone fabricators react to these metal strips on top of the cabinets? Were they at all concerned about installing the stone directly on these? Did they install over plywood?

    Hi Pippa,

Yes, they installed 2 or 3 sheets of plywood on top of the cabinets, but only because we were trying to build up the 3" counter top edge. If we wanted a "normal" thickness it would have only been 1 sheet of plywood. It's my understanding that over any of the cabinets you install, Ikea or otherwise, you would need to have a sheet of plywood over. This plywood would help bridge gaps between dishwashers, etc.

In fact our installer said they loved the Ikea kitchen and about 50% of the countertops they install are on ikea cabinets! We haven't had any issues with the strength in the cabinets either, they feel super sturdy!
