You might be able to go 48, my table is 52 and if I pull out the chairs for sitting down, it takes about 87 inches.

Susan, I am thinking of going with a traditional look, haven't picked out a table because wasn't sure of what I could fit in there. I am worried that if it's tight, it will be hard to get to the chairs by the back window. How are you making out with your lay out?

a built in bench with a table and 2 chairs could look really great here. alternatively, consider a round table.

one final option is counter style window seating with stools and a window height top.

How deep is the nook? is it 85x85"?

I think the problem is 40" table. 20" chair and 20" chair. That's 80 inches. You have 85. You can't walk around.

It's a tight space. I think a custom built in 3 sided bench is best use of space as others have said.

In my opinion it's really only comfortable for like a 2 top 36" table with chairs

building a bench is not really an option for now. a round table with a bench by the back window is what we are thinking at this point. I am also interested to hear from people who might have a similar spot in their kitchen and what worked for them best. We are a family of two adults and three small children so we need to maximize the use of this space.

Glaaat, we are in the same boat exactly. I'd like a 46" table. Wondered whether you went w a bigger round table and how it worked out or if you went smaller and feel now you could have gone bigger.

A 40" round table with a 12" leaf would give you the option of more seating around an oval when needed.

What did you end up with?

I have a 7 ft x 6 ft nook myself and am wondering the "rules" of table size and chair pull out.
