Help with color matching

I have oak cupboards and I want to go with different shades of grey throughout my dining-room and living room area and it kind of all ties into one another, so I have no idea what color to paint the kitchen. Can I go with a grey wall to match oak cupboards?

Grey and Oak are both neutrals, so pick a color to work as an accent or it will all be bland.........like oatmeal......you probably don't want to end up with something that looks like oatmeal.

I'm assuming since there is no photo to reference that your "oak" cupboards are traditional oak colored wood.
