I have ceilings that are are two stories tall or 20 feet. Not sloped but square.

How about two transitional gray sofas facing each other perpendicular to the fireplace? Then a couple of accents stools floating between the piano and FP. I'd remove the window treatments and opt for NO treatments. You could even leave the pink carpet with the gray and accent a color in the stools. Or, one gray sofa and two accent chairs facing the sofa.

Everyone has super wonderful ideas? I missed it I think, but do you want contemporatry or traditional or transitional furnishing? And will you use a designer or a furniture store like Ethan Allen or will you repurpose all your furfiture in different fabrics? Lots of possibilities.

Anyhoo, remove the curved part of the sectional, but keep staight pieces.

Place longest straight sofa to face fireplace.

Place shorter sofa with back to windows but floating and at right angle to long sofa. Place end table between two pieces and add transparent glass lamp clear or in color in room that you love. Place chair opposite to where it is now near fireplace. Find cool modern Pharmacy lamp to sit by it for reading. I assume you have glass and brass round cocktail table that matches sofa table? Good!

Find a really fun modern art painting piece with bold colors found in room and place over mantle, possibly frameless?

Put orchids on Piano and re-do bench in Zebra fabric.

Put clear colored glass bowl on game table.=

Remove existing curtains and have Woven Roman shade on all the windows for texture and privacy.

Leave cocktail table where it is with out anything on it.

Add variety of silk pillows in all sizes, no matching, down filled, in vibtant variations of stripe on sofa and love seat.

If your cocktail table matches the sofa table then a nice full plant in a basket placed under the table would be fun. Replace lamp on sofa table with a metal sleeker lamp?

I think there have been some very good ideas. I do like the two sofas facing each other in front of the fireplace, Then two chairs directly facing the fireplace. With coffee table (or smaller tables individually for each sofa) as I post. Side tables between the two chairs & at one side of the sofas with table lamps or floor lamps. Keep the lovely windows open as suggested.

I think the two chairs , not big and Stuffy in front of the windows facing a three cushion couch would work with a two cushion love seat in front of the piano. We have the game table in the corner and piano on the same wall opposite the fireplace which is a see through to the den. No tv.

I recommend overstock.com or Wayfair.com. The have lots of furniture, fast delivery. I have done business with both. O.com has wonderful customer service and both have cash back programs if you sign up to accumulate credit dollars. By all means shop locally, but check and and compare prices with the websites.

Ethan Allen will be veryhelpful in using and adding to what you have. And they have free design help.
Also any furniture chain in you area.
Also an interior designer can help you make choices and allow you to use your existing furniture. It looks very well made. You can have it redone for a more transitional look.
This is parade of home season and taking a day to tour a few will be really inspiring and you might find the perfect person to help you out.

Please do not use a hanging light fixture over a bathtub. Buy a water safe recessed light over the soaking tub. However you could add a chandelier (unwired) with candles in it for ambiance. How does that sound?

I think you can start with local companies in that it will be a familiar area and will know the design trends in your locale.

That IS such a special room I think you should spend the extra bucks and get a pro to design something for you. Sorry! Your room is very special!

What you might want to think about is getting some parsons chairs and having them slipcovered to go with your new living furniture and make sure they are on rollers. That way you can add them to the seating area if you have enough company over or even roll them into the DR if you need to.

Have you considered Ballard Design. They are an internet company and I think they do consulting. Plus I have heard only good about their products? Have you seen their catalogue? They do everything from soup to nuts and I think that might be an avenue?

I think these rooms are from their catalogue. Looks great, they can put a whole room together for you for not a lot of out go on your part. I think theyr are reasonable and offer a lot of customization options?

There is some excellent advice on what to look for in a sofa and furniture in general. I would not suggest any of the Internet sites as almost all of their furniture is made overseas and not good quality.
You want to buy the best sofas you can afford as they are your most important pieces.
I highly suggest hiring a design professional to help you through the process. She will have a much greater source of vendors for quality furniture and fabrics, available only through the trade. Stick with a budget and she will work with you. It will be money well spent. You may overspend if you do it yourself, by not making informed design decisions.
If you are familiar with Houzz, you have read hundreds of articles about people who go into a showroom, get talked into a "set" of cheap furniture get it home and don't know how to make it "work".
Don't want to repeat the whole article, but Ethan Allen, Pottery Barn, RH, are very expensive for what you get. Not quality pieces built to last, but rather inexpensive built for the masses.Most is made overseas.
Also Ballard designs and other discount Internet sites, sell mostly made in China furniture. Maybe nice looking in a catalog, but not quality furniture, especially for your living room!
After many sets of furniture bought at the above mentioned places, I finally did it right, have one Kravet sofa that is eleven years old and looks brand new and just replaced an ugly oversized Ethan Allen sectional with two custom sofas, that will last me a long time.
Take your time, decide on a budget, make a design plan including form and function and have fun.

1. I agree with what you say, but if your design goal is ten years and a budget then go with cheaper pieces. I have a Harden sofa and after 18 years of family room living it needs to be redone. But if you are doing a room for mostly 'show' then show can be fine. If it were me, and it isn't , I would find a designer I could work with and then redo existing furniture in new ways. I think the furniture in the room is gorgeous, but the application and colors needs to be redone to a more current vibe. If you look at rooms that are twenty years old and rooms that are current they all have a sofa and chairs of some sort but done in the trend or current colors with the new look accessories/
2. Dining room chairs have not been made in America for over ten years. Bed rails are not made in America either and because of OHSA and the EPA leather is not made in America either; gone over 15 years ago. So we get things from other countnries who are still living with those things on a daily basis and we get cheaper labor. Do not get me started! hahaha.....I sold furniture and I have a few ideas of where it comes from. Most major companies including Centurry and Baker etc are all made overseas. Probably 30 per cent is made in Americs. It is reality, but good furniture is out there if you are willing to pay the price of job vacation, health care, retiremet pension which is what Americans now demand from a job they do and the cost is passed on to the consumer.
3. I think Ballard offers a good piece of furniture for a good price for the look and I think that is what was being asked for, so I made the suggestion.

I have worked with a designer on Houzz, Siegler Design.com. She is very approachable and knowledgable. I think you should email her and see what you think. It is just talking and she has walked me thru a lot of concepts and ideas. You can also go online at Houzz and find a designer whose rooms you like and contact them. Look under House Tours and see what you think?

But if you want a nice look I think Ballard will give that to you. And I have been very happy with the small amount of Ethan Allen I have bought thru the years. Let us knowhwat you are doing! Love your room.

Last thought! Have you thought of having a Staging Company come in and stage the room to give you ideas and see what you think? That can be eye opening to new looks or ideas before you commit!
