I would not do ceramic at all but porcelain wood look would be a nice choice I don’t however like tile for walking on all day so unless you are in a tropical climate I would go with wood.

Cleaning isn't much different with tile as it is with wood. Both need sweeping. Both need the occasional "damp" clean. Porcelain tiles (do NOT go glossy) have a life span of 25 years (they chip and crack over time...after 20 years the often need to be removed and a new floor put down). A solid hardwood can last 60-100 years. It can be refinished every 25 years or so. If it looks tired, you can pep it up around year 12 (a quick recoat of the finish and you have a handsome floor for another 10 years).

I agree that tiles are hard and loud. They do well in HOT climates...but the rest of N. America is not very fond of a whole house. Usually they are limited to kitchens, baths and entranceways. They are hard on the legs and feet.
