This past winter I was tasked to float this warped, well worn, jarro wood repurposed vanity my client found.

How do you float yours? ever had one fall?

Theres some talk on the forums of falling floating vanity's...(Insert panic!) and then I remind myself its not one of mine.

I overbuild most everything for just this reason. Here's a few process photos of how we float a vanity. There's many ways , tricks and materials one can use. I like Lumber, Angle iron, deckscrew's, goldie's, glues and silicone.. Here since we did the framing for this remodel I was able to plan for blocking.

Here I started by framing with 2x6 and installing cross blocking, the O.C. spacing was dictated by the lighting and double mirrors and plumbing that this vanity would share the wall with.

This vanity cab was not built to be floated and was mostly MDF construction with a Jarro wood faceframe, It was very warped and falling apart, we used 5/8" and 3/4" ply and glue to beef it up..

The solid Jarro wood top is HEAVY as H#@% !. I routed out a channel for my angle iron that will support the front of the top itself and carry most of the sink and top weight. Later to be be slid into holes on each side walls blocking and be nearly invisible. This is a safety net in the event the cabinet moves the counter will not drop.

Replaced drywall with 1/2" ply filler more glue and goldie screws. And the bottom Angle iron ledger support will get drilled and srewed into studs, the base of the cabs weight will be carried on this ledger.

Here you see A 3 wall capture There is 2x6 blocking on all 3 walls that the rebuilt cabs Plywood is screwed and lag bolted into while it rests on the back wall angle iron ledger. Lots of dry fitting to level before securing.

Look close, you can see the angle iron that i routed and siliconed into the counter top, this angle iron slid into pre drilled holes on the left and right walls 2x6 blocking, its about 2 inches longer than the opening and took a lot of convincing to slip in...This carries the weight of the top and shares sink support with the back ledger.

Scribe fit the countertop and siliconed and clamped it down then screwed it to cab from below. This top if you look close is very warped as are some of the false drawer fronts this is RE-purposed after sitting in a garage for years but my client wants it and must have it! after 2 days of work its in and you bet I can jump on it but im only 200LBS!!!

Our client is an artist and really good with finishes, she sanded the top and restained it just before we installed the sinks.. She is exceptional with the stain and the fact that she put so much elbow grease into it gives her a certain Attachment to the project..........

Last I checked it had not fallen off the wall. ! what a challenging install in comparison to others wev'e floated.......
