Return the pine tree, or try to save it?

I bought 2 small white pines from Menards. (24" tall). They were in 3(?) gallon buckets. I didn't plant them for about 10 days, but kept them watered. and partly in sun. But the one's needles started turning brown. I got them into the ground, and the other one is doing well, but the brown one is getting browner, except for the lowest limbs. If those don't turn brown, I could encourage one to be the leader. I suppose time will tell, but was wondering what you would do. It was only $20.00.

return it.. unless it takes more than $20 of gas ... lol ..

pines like it real dry ... you may have over watered it ...

or it was improperly planted in the pot ...

and shall i presume you mean it was in a pot ... with drainage???

Yes Ken.......the pot had drainage. They both received the same amount of water..so i guess I should assume there was just something off with this one pine. And it will only cost about $4 on gas to return it. Sure wish I could save it, but I'd have to do some cutting, and then if it died, I couldn't return it......

I'd return it.

Unless you bought it as is, for a deep discount, you should get a healthy and vigorous tree.
