I'll get samples and post this weekend!

The problem here is everyone's monitor shows the color a bit differently. You'll need you get a friend with you to see on sight in person. But, I know you'll pick the right one. You have great taste. :)

#4 - I like the contrast and it brings out the glass tile

8 is my choice of these colors, but I would choose a shade without yellow in it,if there were more choices.

Dark color makes the bathroom small.

#4. I think you need a contrast not a color that closely matches the tile. :)

I like 6, but would like a darker shade of it as well.

I will give away a secret right now on this thread. You cannot possibly choose a colour with any confidence that way. You need a piece of white paper behind each colour and look at it up against the trim and the tile. The white paper keeps the existing wall colour from affecting the colour. You will be able to eliminate most of them right away. I take it you want a grey that relates to the mosaic strip. It appears to be a green undertoned grey.

Eight. I remember Sarah Richardson said go with the lightest color of all the samples you like for a bathroom.

Then get a couple a sample sizes of paint and paint a board per colour (poster board is good, mine are 11x14") . Again, remember to put white behind to block out everything but the colour. You need to see a sample that large to make a good decision the first time. Who likes to repaint?!

I tried the white paper and 4 stood out for sure! This weekend I'll sample

Good luck. Remember to move the sample to different walls and at different times of day.

Try to paint a corner. You will see how the light reflects on 2 different angles and plus it would give you a better idea of what it would look like ... one corner will give you a darker result than if you were to paint 2 small areas far apart.

#6 hands down. The gray and taupe undertones will look great, and make the colors in the tile trim and floor pop. The trim will also stand out, adding more architecturat intrest. Great job picking out the tilesHome and Design Solutions

The second worst way to select colors is by committee off computer screens.

I dunno, Mark. I think a committee of computer screens might be the first worst way.

Kimberly..Mark and Grover are so right!:/ it's so easy for us to see a color and choose which one we like, but it probably is far from what the color actually is, and completely different from what it will look like in your room! I just finished painting my 6K sq ft home! It is sooo easy to make paint choices when it's not your home! No one can make the paint choice but you, or you won't be happy. Get serious. Get paint samples. Paint samples on board or walls. Look at them for a week or more, then go with what you love! It's the only way to go..unless you want to hire a designer! I wish I had! I was one of those actually grasping for paint colors, while the painters were in my home, ready to get to work! It's one of the most stressful things I've ever done! If I had it to do over, I would follow my own advise!! Good luck!:)

and paint swatches don't help much either. we've had a painting disaster where we chose a cream-beige and ended up with pale canary yellow
  • 11 years ago
#6 ..... But keep in mind that the color of your swatches probably comes through differently on each computer....

I would bring a sample of your wall and floor tiles and the accent glass tile to a reputed paint store and ask for recommendations. They should have sale persons good with colors. At least, I have in my Benjamin Moore store close to my place. Bring to your home 2 or 3 samples of his/her recommendations.

Thanks for all the much needed feedback. The advice offered me much perspective. As a result I think I am going with a darker color, more pewter color. See below. Still need to get the samples (6 bing the other)

The point of the board was not to have the decision made by others, but really to see what potential buyers would like. Of course in the end the decision is mine. :-) ✌️❤️

Love it!! The color looks perfect on my iPhone! Ha! Can't wait to see the finished product! Choosing paint color for MYSELF was one of the hardest things I've ever done! Next time I'll be prepared! Having said that..I'm sure I'll still ask others opinion LOL!!

Good choice, I love the blue you selected.

I love the darker colour you chose! I think it goes well with the tiles and makes the darker ones pop out a bit more. Cant wait to see the finished product!

I have the same accent tile in my kitchen and my walls are a dark inky grey and I love it. My bathroom is also really dark brown grey and I love it too. If you have white tile half way up the wall you can go with a darker color

I wasn't going to say anything when so many people have commented. However, at the risk of repeating someone else's advice, I suggest that you get some lightbulbs that are labeled for "sunlight" or "daylight" so they are the clearest, whitest light you can find. Otherwise, your lighting is going to skew the colors no matter what you chose.

Step 2 is to buy samples of the colors you think work the best and paint a patch that comes close to the tile you're trying to coordinate. You should chose 3 with different "back tones" -- pinkish, greenish and yellow-ish. Then choose one that is outside your comfort zone - a dark gray or chocolate or something you like but aren't sure about. Samples cost about $3@. It saves a lot of error and time. (It took me 6 samples and 2 months to decide on the LR color.)

Ended up choosing the darker grey... months later we are still working on that… Just need a little bit of caulking and the job is done.

Thanks for all the feedback much appreciated.

Now on to my next question need advice for living room color!!!
