Can anyone out there offer any advice on an inexpensive way to child-proof our exterior basement stairwell? This is a separate entrance to our basement (made of concrete), with only a foot high concrete wall/lip around the stairwell. I'm really worried about falls into the stairwell. We've priced out an iron railing, but it's a little expensive. I've also wondered about simply screwing in some kind of board over the deep part of the well. Thoughts anyone??
