Empty living room

I just moved into new apartment and I'm lost as to what decorative direction to go with living room. I know I need rug but what style would fit and do I need curtains? And what style pillows??

I wish that you had contacted the advisors before you bought that furniture.

susan2494 happens all the time on this sight, right. So doesn't hanging TV's too high.

riri0425, yes get your rug first. Its style will dictate acessories

jck910 is absolutely right. The rug will tell you what colors and style to go with. Maybe go with something transitional in style, so it's not too contemporary or too traditional.

I know I hate my furniture but I gotta work with it for now till the kids grow a little older. I was thinking shag rug? Nothing else coming to mind

If you like shag, what about Moroccan rug? It has the umpf of a shag, but with more character I think!

    Here's an example.

Or maybe go slightly edgy with an overdyed rug, it has the traditional pattern with today's color! Psst.. I found one like your blanket color ;) It goes great with your grey wall as well!

Get a rug you love. Make sure you get a large size to anchor the furniture. From there pillows, drapes and artwork. The rug should be an investment piece that will be with you for years. Don't rush. Your furniture is fine. Resist buying accessories until you have the rug you love. I have rugs that are 40 years old plus. Some we bought and some from family. Don't buy something to fill a space, unless you love it! If this is your forever home, when you get to covering the windows don't skimp. Have fun! Make sure any purchases are returnable.

Oops! Just reread that it is an apartment! Buy a rug that can move with you. Pillows and drapes come and go. Art work is with you a life time. Buy pieces you love. Buy originals when you can.

Riri, I suggest a woven rug, for easier cleanups. A patterned sisal will withstand alot, and looks well with both other sofas and other rugs placed over it, for later on.

If that teal is a preferred accent shade, look for it in textured pillows .

You might also start looking at accents- a tray for the coffee table, higher lamps for better reading, and a substantial basket to corral the gaming devices. Look for shine when choosing metals,as balance against the lower lustre furnishings.

I can see a nice big plant at the end of the 3 seater by stairs to soften the stair look

For lamps and wall art.....go BIG. It is not against the law to have an area empty of embellishment. In fact it wonderfully freeing. Take your cue from the art for selected touches* of indestructible decor items...maybe shop your home first. Silver lamp bases. I would say Mercury glass but probably too fragile. Everyone is buying large footstools three days....your color ways will dictate but don't go with leather. Enjoy your process.

    Not three days.
