What are the rules for mixing flooring types?
I have a kitchen peninsula that straddles two different types of flooring - the hardwood floors in my kitchen and dining area, and a porcelain tile that covers a strip from my front door to my living in the back of my house.

I was going to replace the tile, but I'm not sure if I like the idea of the peninsula straddling two different types/colours of floor. Are there any design rules around this? The pensinula cabientry is to be painted white, so I have no idea what direction to go in for flooring. Any help would be appreciated!
