You have several options. It depends on what you are trying to acheive.

If you are creating new enclosed space, like an entry hall, I would suggest an "open gable roof" with windows in the gable end to allow in light to your new entry hall.

If you are doing a covered outdoor porch, you can also do the open gable roof or you can do a tall pergola with a roofing material on top. The pergola should be higher then the roof on either side and essentially floating above them at about 12 feet or higher.

Since it is the front of the house the pergola is ruled out. The entrance will remain where it is. The extended roof will be part of the existing porch.
