Aw, isn't she sweet?! They nest on the ground? We don't have those in FL. There is a bald eagle couple near our house that raise eaglets every spring.

We're going to see my mom tomorrow, but I should have all day Sunday to sew. I ended up making a quick lap-size top last weekend, so I will probably get out my Hunter Star quilt this weekend.

Yes Donna, they make their nests on the ground. We had them in the farm fields back home. I didn't expect to see them here in the city. When the babies hatch, they will be able to walk and run as soon as they are dry. The parent birds will feign a broken wing to lure anyone away from the nest or babies. They have startled quite a few people as they walk next to the nest.

How cool is that?!! We have a mama owl in the tree just behind us and she had 4 babies! The babies are starting to fly now, so it has been fun to see.

I made 6 luggage tags last night to send to DS & DIL. He is living in England for 6 months and when they left, he only had 1 luggage tag left (people steal them!). Anyway, DIL's mom is going to visit next week, so she will take them along. I made 2 for her, too. This weekend I hope to work on stash-busting and getting some blocks put together. We have "Taste of Fort Collins" this weekend so we will be going to listen to music and eat some yummy food.

We have had birds make their nests on the light fixtures on the porch. And even in the hanging baskets. Fun to watch the progress.

I am finishing up the April Lotto block quilt. I sewed the binding on today and started tying and burying threads. Next will be hand sewing the binding to the back.

I just got home after 2 weeks traveling for work. I did sew some while I was in Atlanta this week. I hope I can sew some this weekend. I am tired, so I do not plan to do much of anything else.

I had a very busy week with no quilting whatsoever, so I hope to get some in this weekend. I'm starting on my second nephew's quilt. I also have several to glue baste and quilt.

I love watching the birds as they nest. So enjoyable!

I've surprised myself and have the quilt turned and ready to quilt for my SIL. Whoopee! The pieces for the new block for Zelda QAL are ready to be laid out and all the other blocks are completed so hope to work on that this weekend. Still working on DDs BD quilt....it's almost half done.

I had the urge to try an equalateral triangle quilt, so I cut some triangle last nite, sewed a few rows together and decided...never mind. They went together fine, but I'm not patient enough to do a whole qulit In them while I'm still working. Looks like I'll save that project for retirement!

So now I'm focusing on starting an Irish Chain quilt, I've not made one, but a MSQ tutorial sure makes it look easy. I'm excited to get started...of course I've still got three WIPS to finish...

HaHa Valarie. I'll be starting a Single Irish Chain that my niece wants when the fabric she ordered gets here. They are very easy so hopefully it will go quickly. The single is a 9-patch with a square. I have to 'think' for the Double and Triple ones.

That is so cool that you have birds nesting in your yard Linda. I know there is a bird nest in the top of my fireplace that is in my sewing room - sometimes I can here them flying down the chimney and sometimes flying outside into the yard, but I still don't know what kind they are as I have not actually seen them yet. I did see a bluejay feigning dead outside my laundry room window, I don't know if it ricocheted off the laundry room window or if it was playing dead for other reasons on the ground on pine straw - it did not look like there was a nest there.?? This weekend I will be spending some time working on Granny Square quilt blocks, crocheting some ribbon bookmarks, and may spend a little time making quilted Christmas ball ornaments. It's pouring rain this morning.

Mother's day is decoration day at many of the cemeteries where my mother lives. There is always a killdeer nest near one of the headstones and the poor parent's become stressed with all the activity in the area. No one ever bothers them, but they don't know that.

I so hope to get some sewing done, the grands are going home about lunch today, so maybe I can. Still gotta catch the bluetail skink that sneeked in while we were working on the back door.

Woo-hoo! Two quilts finished this week. I must be doing something right!

Yep, Donna...we do. I've seen them here, none in my yard, but more when we get out of town a little bit. They're really cool little birds.

Had not planned on any sewing/quilting this weekend, but since the cutting mat is still on the dining room table...and the blue, white fabrics that will work for the July lotto blocks are still there, decided to go ahead and wash the 'maroon' (is that just a darker red??) ...soon as that's dry, I'll go ahead and at least cut the fabric for July. It will be hard to not just start sewing, right???

Killdeers are fascinating, aren't they? We once had one at the edge of our long, long gravel access road leading to our house. She built the nest right in the rocks and we had to use caution driving past it. I worried so about that mother bird!

Beth, "Maroon" is a darker red - burgundy type color. Does that help??

lol...yep, Sue - hope i picked the right 'maroon'!! The blocks are done...I caved in and played with the sewing machine on the weekend. Color names always baffle me. I spent about 30 years in the interior design business; when folks would say something like, "I want mauve!" or..."Let's do a teal..." ....try seafoam ...even 'mocha'!!! You would be amazed at the varieties of colors that can be called by one name! (but I think mauve was my biggest pet peeve...anything from pink...dusty rose.... to purple seemed to work for folks!! LOL) It's all in how we perceive, I guess.

That's why I insist on paint chips when I'm making a quilt for someone. No confusion.

True enough Beth! When Linda and I took on the Lotto, I never thought about so many details that need to be spelled out!
