I have a very small kitchen and we painted our cabinets white to make the room look more open. It looks amazing but it was a lot of work. Several layers of white plus the gloss over it to help when it comes time to cleaning the cabinets. Also, if you cook a lot (as I do) be prepared to have to constantly clean them, especially when making a tomato sauce!

Oh and btw, we painted them ourselves (my husband is a very good DIY'er, I think it's the OCD) and we also swapped out our appliances for stainless steel.

The colors are bland, and could use some contrast! Staining your cabinets a dark wood color would give a nice contrast to spice up the overall look. It would help accent your appliances and fixtures.

I actually like the idea of staining them more than painting. Here are a couple of ideas for stains. The first is more of a walnut color

and the second one has more of a cherry tone to it.

Either one would look good. I think a darker cabinet works with the light floor color. You could also add an area rug to define spaces in the eat in kitchen area.

Painting white will really brighten then up.

If you don't paint them... although painted white would look great, especially if you painted the side wall next to the table a nice gray color... go darker than the options you have above. They still look bland. We think since you have dark countertops, white might be better. You could also do a gray textured/stone tile for the backsplash to compliment.

Seems like it would be a bit blah...too many light colors. A bit more contrast would be nice.

If you paint them white - take out the backsplash and put in a nice tile/mosaic one!

i'd love to see you add a big island! there seems to be so much wasted space....can you move the table elsewhere? then i'd paint the island in a soft black or in a white. adding some stylish hardware would make a big difference too!

White painted cabinets are a classic, timeless choice that never goes out of style. It would look beautiful with your counters. Adding some stainless knobs & pulls would further add character. With those colors as your backdrop, you are free to add just about anything for accessories to create the "real" personality in there. I agree with Genay Bell Interiors. I would paint cabinets white for a timeless look. The darker countertops would make a lovely contrast. Adding the stainless appliances and new door pulls will give you a whole new look. Best of luck to you on your kitchen improvements!

I voted nonwhite for a cream with a dark gray island or lower cabinets. . White is a little too easy to show every cat hair, finger print etc. I like the look of some of the new dark gray appliances that don't have the problems cleaning that even the brushed stainless look has. My household isn't as busy as most but easier to clean and keep clean frees up time to enjoy friends and family. We turned a room in our basement into a paint suite to avoid dust and lint. A good paint gun is a must but at least consider taking the doors out for painting for a baked on finish. Lovely home and floors. I'm a"That Generation" one! LOL! You can do it!

They are already so nice. I think any color would add something to these. keep it simple.
