That is such a vivid color! I love it. Mine aren't anywhere near blooming.

You know, I like clematis. When I lived in Centennial I had a BEAUTIFUL one that climbed a trellis along my garage. I planted one here in Littleton probably 4-5 years ago and the thing never grew. I would get about 2 stems off it and one flower on each stem. I finally ripped it out this year.

Thanks Zach. David is our clematis master. Thanks to him I successfully took a cutting from this plant for a friend a few years ago. This one can be very moody. Some years one a flower or two, or years like this. And it was traumatized by my nincompoop nephew while I was in Maine, so this is a real joy to behold a couple of years later.

Mine are just starting their show. The ones covering the house are a result of when it warms up in February and they start to bud out and you don't think its a good idea to cut them back to the ground. They're already 3 feet thick.

I just ran out to get these, so no staging as in removing the hose or that piece of junk furniture we're using as a work bench for some project, and those aren't dandelions in the lawn, they're 'alternative flowers' that someone with better photoshop skills than I would eliminate.

Wow, those are lovely! In our "new" house (we're going into our second summer), we have a clematis vine out front. I read up on them and found that some like to be cut way back every year, while others bloom best on old vines. So, when the kids cleaned up Mom's home to sell, they butchered everything back (except what they were supposed to; didn't prune lilacs or other bushes. Lord help me, they DID rototill the garden and all that glorious bindweed had even more starters than it had before they started...), including this clematis vine. The neighbors told us how beautiful the clematis was year after year (it faces their front door), and so all summer long, I'd wait and watch, expectantly, and nary a single bloom came out. So last fall, I didn't touch it, didn't even mulch it in (where it lives, the mulch would have just blown away anyhow). And voila, covered with blossoms! I wonder if that's what was wrong with yours in Centennial, Zach? Needed pruning but didn't get it, or vice versa?
